DL depth chart

Thank you this is starting to look like a real DL now in CFB.. More 21-23 year grown men like Pierre, Porter, Kamalu, Chick, Renfrow, Gilbert, Robinson, less 18-19 year old kids.. Red shirt Earl Moore, and Grimble please. Grimble had to play as a 17 year old kid on the DL in 2011 against 21-23 year old grown men on the OL. Kid needs to red shirt and develop.

Right on. There was no way any DC in football was going to do anything with our defense last year. When you're trotting 17 year old kids with a few weeks of practice under their belt out there in the trenches they're going to get ragdolled just like they did. And when your DLine gets ragdolled your D is going to suck. There's no disguise for that. It's never been invented.

We're going to try and rotate a lot of DL in our base and our nickel/dime packages - we have depth now and we have to stop teams from pounding the rock on us (ND ran what 30+ consecutive run plays on us) if we want to win the ACC.

Curtis Porter will be a key player (stay healthy!), as well as Gilbert (if he's healthy).

Gilbert played in every game last year. Missed most of 2011 because of the foot injury. Played in every game in 2010 and every game but one in 2009. Went through spring ball with Wisconsin this year. Durability hasn't been his problem. He isn't Porter. Seems like pain management and multiple surgeries wore on him. Add in a new coaching staff at Wisky and he might have said **** it. A chance to come back home as opposed to healing completely for a year were his choices. Specialize him. He won't have to carry the load. I think he'll be fine unless the foot is now a degenerative issue.

GOOD INFO

I am fully on board with the redshirting Moore and Grimble plan. Maybe it's not the most realistic thing in the world but it would be a wise investment.

I feel like this would be a good move. We brought in guys that are more physically ready to contribute, give them time to catch up.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BLITZ

It's funny how life works....when Randy was here I felt we played TOO much man under cover 2. It became predictable and we use to get eaten alive by crossing routes.

With D'Onfrio I've felt we play TOO much zone and our corners gave too much cushion off the ball.

I'm not unreasonable....can I just get something in between? We've got the athletes and speed to at least mix in some more man and an occasional zero coverage while bringing the heat.

This newfound D Line depth can only help the pass rush and in turn help the secondary. I gotta think D'Onfrio is going is going to show more looks this year. Here's hoping.

I would also like to see more man coverage and blitzing from this years defense. We have the players to make it effective.

The DL can definitely help the DB's, but they can also help the DL by covering that 1-2 extra seconds they need to get to the QB. I think D'Onofrio will start playing more aggressive coverages and will be able to disguise things better, now that most of them will have been in the system for a year.

Please tell me we will be MUCH, MUCH better on the DL this year? Please say it's so?

In all honesty we can't be any worse.

But yeah, I think this unit is going to be a lot better than last year which will help the entire defense.

We've definitely upgraded the depth and talent level. Not only because of the additions of Renfrow, Gilbert and Kamalu, but also due to natural mental and physical growth.

The D-Line is READY Boyz.... no worries.

It aint gon look like Vince Wilfork is playing out there but it'll be good enough to get were we need to go.
