DL depth chart

I think Muhammad is a good candidate for a 'shirt, unless he shows up for STs.

I don't see anyway he redshirts, kid is already in the 2 deep.

Before Gilbert arrived. Not gonna pass other 3 seniors; 51 Green, 94 Cain (Sr) & 49 Dye (RSr), if he plays.

Yeah, he can pass the others, maybe not Green, but what has Dye ever contributed to this team? Cain, I can see easily getting beat out, because quite frankly he isn't that good.

I think AQM will be used situationally in the LEO role at first - maybe 10-15 snaps/game.

This Cain is a JAG, Green has a lot of heart but is a JAG, Gilbert has questions regarding his foot, but is talented. AQM is going to make it on the field this year.

From the latest edition of Barry Jackson's Sunday Sports Blog:

### After watching him for a week, defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio believes Al-Quadin Mohammad will help immediately: He has a few pass-rush “moves up his sleeve, that he can do, that you wouldn’t expect from a freshman.” One of them caused a ruckus on Day One of camp when -- during a no-tackling practice -- he knocked down Morris on a sack, which enraged the players on offense and prompted a scolding from one of his coaches.

Thank you this is starting to look like a real DL now in CFB.. More 21-23 year grown men like Pierre, Porter, Kamalu, Chick, Renfrow, Gilbert, Robinson, less 18-19 year old kids.. Red shirt Earl Moore, and Grimble please. Grimble had to play as a 17 year old kid on the DL in 2011 against 21-23 year old grown men on the OL. Kid needs to red shirt and develop.

I am fully on board with the redshirting Moore and Grimble plan. Maybe it's not the most realistic thing in the world but it would be a wise investment.

Porter, Pierre, Robinson, Renfrow, Kamalu, Derosier (don't know why I'm talking about an imaginary person), I think we should be able to redshirt a couple of the sophomores who didn't have the opportunity to redshirt last year. Moore and King are prime candidates. I don't see Grimble shirting this year unless he sustains an injury.

King already redshirted in 2011. Even if we redshirt Moore and Grimble we still have 7 guys that can play DT.

Porter, Pierre, Luther, Renfrow, Hamilton, King, Kamalu

Al has done wonders with managing this roster. We may have paid our dues last year, but .......... we back!

My bad. I was thinking about Ivery. I also forgot he got the boot this offseason.

I'm seriously enthralled by what the coaches have been able to do to try to shore up the weakness along the DL. Our 2 deep at every spot can easily be upperclassmen with a lot of experience. The only way a sophomore or freshman makes their way onto the 2 deep is if they force there way on by producing!

We're going to try and rotate a lot of DL in our base and our nickel/dime packages - we have depth now and we have to stop teams from pounding the rock on us (ND ran what 30+ consecutive run plays on us) if we want to win the ACC.

Curtis Porter will be a key player (stay healthy!), as well as Gilbert (if he's healthy).

Gilbert played in every game last year. Missed most of 2011 because of the foot injury. Played in every game in 2010 and every game but one in 2009. Went through spring ball with Wisconsin this year. Durability hasn't been his problem. He isn't Porter. Seems like pain management and multiple surgeries wore on him. Add in a new coaching staff at Wisky and he might have said **** it. A chance to come back home as opposed to healing completely for a year were his choices. Specialize him. He won't have to carry the load. I think he'll be fine unless the foot is now a degenerative issue.
