Did A Little Research...Oh My

Pretty damning data.

It's the same theme that was hammered here (in this thread and post): http://www.canesinsight.com/threads...ebuild-to-take-5-years/page4?highlight=lucane

My advice to WTH is to prepare to defend this view. There's a group of about half a dozen posters who'll immediately say that comparing what we do against a group of teams versus what other teams do against those same teams is… irrelevant, stupid and nonsensical. The "argument in the alternative" is that those results, if relevant, are primarily caused by our talent deficiencies.

At this point, I would be surprised if we fire anyone on the coaching staff and the best hope is that they simply adjust their style.

As with all data, you have to make sure it is first factual, and second relevant to what you are actually trying to convey/discover.

I'm surprised that the time of possession hasn't been brought up more. Some people don't believe in it at all, Chip Kelly for example. Apples to oranges I know, but a rather successful example of always losing the TOP battle....

How many games did we actually win the TOP battle? 1, 2 maybe? If that?

If Golden wants to be taken seriously, he will completely turn the defense over to someone different.

An interesting note: Golden has been a DC or HC for 13 seasons, during that time, his defenses have averaged a ranking of 66th in the country. He needs to realize he's not the next Buddy Ryan, and focus on recruiting.

If he wants to win here, his best strategy is to become like Pete Carroll - recruit well in a talent-rich area, and hire quality coordinators. Because you cannot possibly retain D'Onofrio and this defensive philosophy without demoralizing the fanbase and team.

Got worse after Duke went down with a broken ankle. The offensive running was no where as effective. Big difference when the defense on the field longer when the offense goes out in three downs. Adds to this depleted defense.

This is the time of possession (TOP) argument. The problem with it is that our TOP was no different with Duke than without him.

The problem with the TOP argument is that the precipitous decline in the defense also coincided with Wake exposing many of our flaws. We snuck out of that game with a win and Wake only scoring 21 points, but they showed what you can do to our defense simply by alignment and formation.

It is a great visual but really how many more threads do we need to have about the fact the defense is broken and needs to be fixed. Instead of spending time doing all this "research" send an email to the AD telling him that as a season ticket holder you want change or you will not renew your tickets. You could even attach the graph you made.

I get the "let's stop beating the dead horse" sentiment regarding how bad the defense is, but stuff like this is insightful and has some substance, it's not your run-of-the-mill "yeah, Anthony Moten committed but we'll ask him to play pattycake HUR HUR HUR" garbage.

I rarely disagree with you Swags, but the pathetic crying has to stop, its ruining the site. The OP is one of the worst offenders. 32 above is right; instead of starting dozens of new threads on the SAME TOPIC, write the AD. Money is way more powerful than whining non stop.

Actually, the OP is absolutely right and so is HM32. That's a good idea about sending the AD a letter. But we could use advertisements in the newspapers, billboards, banners, an email campaign, social media, and of course, right here on the CanesInsight.

If you don't like the complaining about our defense, then go see the AD, get this ****** fired, and the threads will go away. Then we can find something else to ***** about.

You want to hear great weeping and gnashing of teeth? Let Golden keep this SOB another year . . .

After all, the biggest alligator is always the closest alligator.

Scream that from the mountaintop bro. Wake friggin Forest put out the blueprint and OC in the last 5 games went all video game on us and not one single adjustment, at least any significant one IMO.
