This graph is a great visual. Good find. I know there are a million of these threads a day but these are the ones that actually bring something to the table. Pretty tough to look at. I know the team is 9-3 but there's always room for improvement and, in this case, I think there's a lot.

There is no excuse in the history of excuses that will support Golden if he chooses not to fire Onfrio.

Firing Onfrio right at this moment will do more harm then good. We need to have someone lined up and at a time when we need few D studs that are being recruited to stick you don't want to make this move.

Golden is all about process. Process quality is defined by corresponding metrics. I would be shocked if Golden didn't have similar charts hanging from the coaches "war room". OP is dead nuts on - hire a real DC, feed him the players he needs for his scheme, and get out of the way.

An interesting note: Golden has been a DC or HC for 13 seasons, during that time, his defenses have averaged a ranking of 66th in the country. He needs to realize he's not the next Buddy Ryan, and focus on recruiting.

If he wants to win here, his best strategy is to become like Pete Carroll - recruit well in a talent-rich area, and hire quality coordinators. Because you cannot possibly retain D'Onofrio and this defensive philosophy without demoralizing the fanbase and team.

Only thing I disagree with is Pete Carroll: as much as I hate Petey, he's a great defensive X's & O's coach. He's been fine-tuning the 4-3 Under scheme since learning it from Monte Kiffin and George Seiffert. Golden isn't anywhere near his level with X's & O's.

The bottom line is Golden is a smart guy, and he knows giving up 500 yards a game can't continue. He HAS to fix the defense internally or externally. Don't really care how. Just get it fixed.

I get the "let's stop beating the dead horse" sentiment regarding how bad the defense is, but stuff like this is insightful and has some substance, it's not your run-of-the-mill "yeah, Anthony Moten committed but we'll ask him to play pattycake HUR HUR HUR" garbage.

I rarely disagree with you Swags, but the pathetic crying has to stop, its ruining the site. The OP is one of the worst offenders. 32 above is right; instead of starting dozens of new threads on the SAME TOPIC, write the AD. Money is way more powerful than whining non stop.

Problem remains that the beat a dead horse threads are not moderated. Making this, a potential intelligent data filled post, appear to be beating a dead horse because it's his 800th thread on the subject followed by the same group making trolling comments.

FSU dominated everyone (except BC) they played. We didn't. We had to comeback to beat 6-6 UNC, 4-8 Wake Forest at home, 7-5 Georgia Tech at home, not to mention giving up 500 yards to horrible offenses in wins over 6-6 Pitt and 2-10 UVA. Little difference between FSU not playing anyone and us not playing anyone. They beat their "nobodies" 60-0 almost every week.

Pitt/USF/GT we gave up garbage yards like 80 to each team late

FSU we could not move the chains and they took long drives,,,while we went 4-12 on 3rd downs

UNC we went 8- 18 with 4 of those on the last drive

VT...2 horrible turnovers unlucky punt knee down ( 21 points) .....3-12 on 3rd downs 28 yards rushing

Duke...SMH...we just needed a few stops..3rd downs we were horrible and 0-2 on 4th int and This loss was on the rush D....

Pitt we won so need to hash it they got a garbage TD with two drives over 90 yards...the 2nd half take away the great TD drive we sucked allowing them the ball with 3 great punts they went straight down the field...

again solid stats but each game had its reasons for the 500 club....it was a team effort, Coaches, players, Turnovers etc,,,

LOL...WTH is giving you a chart with statistical data...known as facts...and some of you^^^, are still slurping Al's defensive philosophies and scheme. I Think Al is a good guy and recruiter. but he DEFINITELY needs to get a DC and get out of the way. Excuses are like @$$holes. Everyone has one and they all stink.

Time to man up and take responsibility as the head coach and CEO. That begins with AG admitting he's part of the problem with the D...change coordinators...and let the new guy run an aggressive, attacking d. Only then will we see the U start to really be back.

Some action needs to be taken. Banners everyday, billboards, whatever it takes. I'm not going to be able to take another year of this defense. Then if Doritos ends up landing somewhere else and we hire Al Groh, I may just have to stop watching college football.

I agree. Unfortunately countless posts on message boards aren't going to get it done. We need to flood Blake James email account with emails. Even then nothing may happen.

I am not saying to stop posting whatever you want. That is what a message board is for, if somebody doesn't want to read then don't or ignore certain posters. I am just saying posting on these sites will get nothing accomplished. If you really want results then spend your time doing something that may make a difference also.
