This a college football fan forum. I don't need to make statements that are 100% defensible. So you can celebrate fewer penalties and improved O line play and I'll happy point out the weakest offensive performance of the year. All your moral victories and marginal improvements aren't showing up on the scoreboard. Therefore, all the talk about improving is just that.
So like I said, more talk.

Oh ****!! Here you go. Tryna make sense and ****. This is a sports Forum+15 yards of field position, on average, is total domination.
The national average is to start a drive on your own 29. Pitt started on their own 24. We started on our own 39. Some of that was turnovers, but we netted a lot of yards on kicks.
It was an A or A- performance on special teams. Hedley and Baxa combined for 25 penalty yards, otherwise it was a perfect special teams performance.
If you don't think it matters to play on an 85 yard field vs a 100 yard field, you're probably the type of guy that watches sports for the home runs and the dunks. Those things are great, but there's a lot more that goes into winning and losing.
Special teams has been a thorn in our side for 2 years now. Huge performance out of that unit Saturday.
You're taking this a tad personal. I've always said I'll never root against my alma mater under any conditions, but winning one game doesn't show we're on the path to redemption. If all you see is a W, you're not paying attention and you're the one in binary world.OK. I'll stoop to your level for a minute.
This is an incredibly dumb week for you to make that argument, because we don't have a "moral" victory to talk about. We have an actual victory! The improvements DID show up on the scoreboard.
The improved special teams DID contribute to a W. The improved tackling DID contribute to a W. The fewer penalties DID contribute to a W.
Whether the improved OL play contributed is more debatable, but given we only had 3 negative plays the entire game, you can make the argument that it did contribute, too. Actually, I'm living in your simple-minded binary world, so f*** it, I'm going to say the OL contributed to the W.
That's how this works right? Throw all nuance out the window. All that matters is wins and losses, and we won.
[Side note: you just said "I'll happily point out the weakest offensive performance of the year". Why would that make you happy? If you've reached the point where you are happy to point out your favorite team's shortcomings, stop following sports.]
How in the holy fuq can you dominate on Speacial Teams when you can’t even kick PATs or field goals?
OBM, just stop bro.
Just b/c something “worked” doesn’t mean it’s the right move.
Allow me to refresh your mind to how we got here:
He pulled JW after a bad quarter against VT; he then says Jarren is still our guy, publicly, only to start Perry the next game against UVA.
He then says Perry started over Jarren b/c Jarren was dealing w a separated shoulder.
Perry struggles a bit against GT, gets injured, JW, miraculously, comes in, gets sacked, Perry comes back in after said injury. We lose.
No QB decision is made as to who starts against Pitt, although it was reported both QBs r dealing w separated shoulders.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, a healthy Tate is not given any consideration, yet was promised a “fair” shot. He’s now gone on “medical” leave of absence.
OK, back to the corridors of Green Tree; Perry gets the nod, although Perry is injured, and JW is most healthy. Oh, did I neglect to mention that JW was given the approval that he was the man to start the season, that he wouldn’t have to look over his shoulders, and that was very important for a young QB to know he’s the guy? (Enos/Diaz words).
Alright, ff back to the Pitt game....Perry is now given the keys, and is not able to drive the car w two hands on the wheel. It’s OK, b/c he’s been given the nod to start, but all of a sudden, Perry is too injured, and JW gets the keys. Wait, let me back it up....JW was supposedly healthy, and Perry was injured, yet Manny went w the injured QB.
OK, OK, back to the Pitt game; Jarren comes in, leads a come back win. His reward? Wait to see if his efforts were good enough to get the nod to start at FSU come Wed.
NOTHING about this is appropriately handled. Diaz has no plans and that’s why we look like schmucks on the field, winning games 16-12 against ACC Corstal teams.
I was also including the Camden Price point-after on the first touchdown we scored @Pitt.Or 1
OK. I'll stoop to your level for a minute.

Let me address each of those separately.
Special Teams
Special teams has been the worst unit on the team for 2 years running. It has consistently had a sub-100 ranking, week after week, for the last 2 years. It was also not a very good unit in 2017. It has cost us multiple games each of the past two seasons (last year: GT, Duke, maybe even LSU; this year: UF, UNC, GT). It is therefore worth appreciating when we put together an excellent special teams performance. Hopefully that becomes the norm.
3rd Downs
What about 3rd down conversion rate? Yes, we have struggled mightily there. What is your point? My comment was about special teams. We need to improve significantly on 3rd downs. That is obvious. Your comment reeks of whataboutism.
"Sort of"
What do you do for a living? Everyone uses filler words and phrases. It takes a concerted effort and much practice to eliminate them from your speech. Public speaking coaching can help, too. I'm sure Manny has received some coaching in this area, as do many/most people who speak to large audiences as part of their jobs. Manny doesn't seem to use a ton of filler words, but it's an easy habit to slip back into. Overall he's a good public speaker - in fact, he's been criticized for being too good a public speaker by this board.
Do you not use any filler words? Are you a professional public speaker? Do you have an extraordinarily crisp vocabulary at all times? If you believe you don't use filler words, that probably reflects a lack of self-awareness more than anything else. Pay close attention to your speech for a couple of days and you'll realize you use them all the time.
Criticism of Manny and this team is totally fair. But the things many of you guys will grasp at are embarrassing.
That's what happens so press conferencesMore talk.

Man you need to accept that 75% of the posters on CIS are here to BASH the team whenever possible.
You can tell these a miserable people living miserable lives— and the only way they feel better is to sh*t on someone, anyone....
It’s a waste of time using logic to discuss football with these haters. They only know how to use raw rage to discuss football.

Even if you think Manny is the greatest coaching mind to ever don a headset, the results haven't proven that out yet. I just don't think many position coaches are up to the task.
So two simple questions.
1. Is this the best this staff can do?
2. Is this the best staff we can get?
Listen, I love watching the Canes play. I want to see them win, but when I see stupid play call like a TE sweep inside the 5 I can't help but criticize the playcalling. When I see the offensive line looking confused, I wonder what they're being taught to look for and expect. I do this because I want improvement, not to bash anyone.I don't care about either of those questions. I find them extremely boring - today. I'll find them more interesting in about 2 months, then extremely boring again for the next 11 months.
HCs change every 2-4 years in college football. Position coaches change every 1-2 years.
Are we really going to spend 2-4 years talking about the same, singular decision? Are we going to spend 1-2 years talking about a handful of (relatively minor, though not irrelevant) decisions? Let's talk about them in December and January when the time comes.
Until then, let's talk about the actual games being played. Let's talk about the players playing them. There has been some good this year, but also some bad. The ratio of good to bad is less than what we would like, but it's not 0-to-infinite. Let's hope that it improves, and talk about whether we see that happening or not.
But it is mind-numbing to come on here and everything be viewed as a referendum on the coaches or the administration.

When my kids come home with all A's and an F, we don't go out for ice cream to celebrate the great marks, we look at why they got the F and come up with a plan to correct it.
I tell ya, politics ruins lives. Think about it, you’ll see what I’m getting at.That's what typically happens at press conferences.
