Devonta Smith

At one point Amite (La.) High five-star receiver Devonta Smith was going to be a summer decision but Mother Nature pushed those plans and on Friday the U.S. Army All-American admitted he also wasn’t ready to decide.

The new date will be National Signing Day which will give the nation’s No. 2 receiver per 247Sports plenty of time to continue looking at Alabama, Miami, LSU and TCU.

The Crimson Tide remain the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for the 6-foot-1, 160-pound Smith, who has visited Tuscaloosa twice for two of No. 1 Alabama’s wins.

“They’re not slacking on recruiting me and it means a lot to me they’re still there for me no matter how long I wait,” Smith said.

Everything he’s seen from offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts gives Smith a lot of confidence he can be the next to shine in their program.

“The way that the offense is opening up, really passing the ball more, it’s standing out to me and I like what I see.

“I’ve seen a lot of leadership and character from (Jalen). It lets me know he’s ready for the challenge and everything.”

The environment at Alabama never gets old.

“I have fans, everyone just saying how they want me, and the coaches they want me just as much as the fans do.”

Miami has always been considered the biggest challenger to Alabama for Smith and he says Mark Richt reminds him “all the time” he was once committed to him when he was at Georgia. The connection is still there between the two.

“It’s a very young team and that lets me know when I get there it wouldn’t be a lot of rebuilding,” Smith explained. “Everyone will be in there growing as they go.”

Stacy Coley won’t be there, and that’s the guy Richt and company see Smith replacing. He attended the North Carolina game last week.

“It’s a wonderful atmosphere,” Smith said. “Fans are really interested and I like what Coach Richt is doing with the program.”

LSU was a school Smith just started mentioning again and he’ll be at the game Saturday.

“They’ve picked up the communication with the coaching change and they’re really opening up their offense,” Smith said, adding he hasn’t thought about who the next coach will be, he just wants someone that’s going to throw the ball.

“I know they’re the Tigers, they’re LSU, they’re always competing for the top spot,” Smith said. “If they open up the offense I think it would be a great fit.”

That’s exactly what he thinks about TCU’s style of play.

“I like the offense and what they do, and they put up a lot of numbers and a lot of yards and that’s what I like.”

Smith will take officials following the season.

It would have been better if he would have came for the FSU game instead.

Welcome to be a cane fan, theses little *****es esteem is so shot . If a guy is pro cane " he's trolling , but if he's possiblly 50/50 " we have no shot". They love slobbing on Fsu and Bamas cacks. Should be cuckold in sight.

yeah pretty much Alabama unless they find some one else

I doubt they find someone else to take over a consensus top 5 WR in 2017. Don't be fooled, if he chooses Miami, we beat out Bama straight up just like we did for Ahmmon

I will eagerly await your "they verbaled to our staff and were silents and were ready to sign when (insert sec team here) convinced them to sign elsewhere" type of explanation.

I see it every year.

That said, I will eagerly eat crow if you're right.

This guy has been through a few recruiting seasons here

Now both Pete and brooklyndee are on record saying that they think we will get either one or both of holloman and smith. That's big time positive news coming from posters who have been nothing but reliable.

On top of that, Pete has said he expects us to land one of the highly rated offensive linemen we are after.

Don't be fooled by all the Debbie downers. We can and have gotten big time prospects to commit to us...we already have big time prospects committed to us. This bodes well.
