Devante Bond

If Bond leaves Miami with 16.5 sacks I'd say his career here was a success.

I would as well. Kid gives us what we didn't have last year, a pass rusher with enough speed and acceleration to make the OT's respect the speed rush. That should open things up for guys on the interior as well.

Bond was class of 2011. Here's a snippet. A couple of grammatical errors but he seems like an intelligent kid.

I am 6'3 and 240 pounds. I run a 4.65 and improving my speed. I currently bench 345 pounds and squat 475 pounds. I am an intelligent coachable player and will do what is asked of me. I work hard non-stop on and off the field which I lead by example. I am interested to go to any college where I can be an asset to the team to help win games and also win a championship. I am open to all schools and would not mind the opportunity to travel. I want to play at the highest competition level possible. My goal is to play all four years of Football at the Collegiate Level and to earn my Bachelors in Business Management. My dream is to play in the NFL, but I would also like to be an enteprenueur and own my own business. I have currently commited to Sierra Junior College and am starting as a Freshman and have plans in the future to tranfer to a Division 1 University. I earned 1st team All-Valley Conferance and will strive to be an All-American next year.

Nanton who is the one being called a JAG did it in three years as a part time player. 22.5 TFL as well. Originally was a track guy.

Lets hope for better than Javon Nanton

Exactly.

Javon wasnt a NFL'er or anything but he came in and was a pretty good 3rd down pass rusher who got to the qb. I think we would all love to have Bond just provide that. Would help us in one part of our defense where we struggled which is get off the field.

I think we should be happy as **** if that kid turns out to be Javon, our defense has taken such a dramatic drop on talent and production that a javon nanton would be a superstar with our fans.

Thanks, Mamma Nanton.

P.S. Nanton was barely even sniffing the field by the time his senior season rolled around. If Bond turns out like Nanton, then Bond will be a major disappointment given the expectations I and many others have for him. Nanton came in with zero expectations, so the mediocre results and ever-decreasing role he played here was viewed as more than what it actually was by fans in hindsight.

This. While Nanton's numbers were decent, he was on a stacked team, and thus received little attention. Put Nanton on last year's team, w/ its woeful DL, and I would be shocked if he put up the same numbers.

16.5 sacks, 20+ qb hurries & 5 forced fumbles is pretty good anywhere.. especially in ONLY 37 GAMES! that's nearly 1 sack per game. & if you go deeper into it he did it as a second stringer for all but 7 games. so his sack output per min played was pretty good.. could've put up outrageous numbers if given the pt.

It's comparing apples to oranges. Nanton was never a go to guy and half of his sacks came in 2003, which might have been the best defense on paper ever. It's a lot easier when it's third down and long and you have essentially 3 first rounders in the secondary to help you out. Plus Vilma, DJ and Rocky to cover the RB and or TE. The math he did gave me a good chuckle too....

Sorry if I'm piling on, but why didn't he get the playing time again?

He was too good.

NAnton was purely a situational guy. Wasn't as much a football player as just an athlete. We maxed his contribution by not asking him to do too much. We need Bond to be more than that.

Bond seemingly had one job at his JC; stand-up end who got after the passer. Hopefully he can learn all that being a linebacker at Miami entails, but he appears to be suited for an almost identical role as a cane.

The thing that impressed me with Bond's tape, beyond the savagery, was that he wasn't just a speed rusher blowing by OT's, he also fought through them outside and inside. He looks like a complete pass rusher.

I'm REALLY excited to see this grown *** man just kill people on Saturdays. I was surprised that most analysis of our class this year failed to mention this guys as an immediate impact big pick up guy like they did the sandman. Can't wait for August!
