Devante Bond

The thought of Bond at SAM, McCord at Weakside LB and AQM at DE on 3rd and long for the next few years is scary.

That right there screams first down to the RB in the flats. Unless we are running a 3-4 I don't want to see McCord and Bond out at LB at the same time.

I think yall forgot McCord was a weakside lb/rush end last year and showed some promise doing it as a freshman despite being undersized by 15-20lbs. Also notice I said 3rd and long situations I by no means think McCord is a starter or better than DP or Kirby. But dont sleep on Tyriq he wasnt an Army AA for nothing.

McCord is a great prospect but his weakness is that he is too stiff in the hips for coverage purposes. Both bond and McCord are pass rush specialists. At this point McCord needs to put some weight on in order to be effective with his hand on the ground. So if both of them are on the field on third and long and we aren't in a 3-4 the that means we are rushing 6, which means we will have holes in coverage. Basically we need only one of them there at one time.

I see what you are saying about McCord. I suppose I am holding out hope that this year or next McCord is 230+ and Howard, Gunter and Crawford are better in one on one coverage.

Lets hope for better than Javon Nanton

Exactly.

Javon wasnt a NFL'er or anything but he came in and was a pretty good 3rd down pass rusher who got to the qb. I think we would all love to have Bond just provide that. Would help us in one part of our defense where we struggled which is get off the field.

I think we should be happy as **** if that kid turns out to be Javon, our defense has taken such a dramatic drop on talent and production that a javon nanton would be a superstar with our fans.

You know he's a ******* monster .5 seconds into his tape there is a gunshot, to echo what zoso said.

Nanton had 10.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks in 2005.

How many team sacks did we have this year?

Thanks, Mamma Nanton.

P.S. Nanton was barely even sniffing the field by the time his senior season rolled around. If Bond turns out like Nanton, then Bond will be a major disappointment given the expectations I and many others have for him. Nanton came in with zero expectations, so the mediocre results and ever-decreasing role he played here was viewed as more than what it actually was by fans in hindsight.

Javon Nanton would have looked like Terrell Suggs on this team last year

Actually, he would have looked like Terrell's pug out there with the supporting cast on last year's DL. Nanton played with better and more experienced players than our DEs played with last year.

Javon Nanton's 3-year career in numbers:

In 37 games with the Hurricanes, Nanton started four times at right defensive end and three times at left end. He recorded 64 tackles (42 solos) with 16.5 sacks for minus-125 yards and 22.5 stops for losses of 148 yards. He was credited with 21 quarterback pressures, five forced fumbles and a pass deflection.

If Bond leaves Miami with 16.5 sacks I'd say his career here was a success.
