Devante Bond and Alex Figueroa

Early on I was meh on Bond but over the last few weeks I've warmed up to him(mainly after Tito gave his official height/weight) Bond shows amazing explosiveness. Figs shows me he likes to engage in blocks and able to rip through his player to get around them. That's something we're missing at the LB position at the moment imo. Coach D will love Figs because of that, really love both pick ups and what they can bring to this defense.

After seeing Terry in person I think he's going to be a special player. When he was coming after the QB he was always a half a step away from the QB and that came from a lack of strength.Once he packs on 15-20 he could be a special player.

Good post D$. My best friend is a HC in college, smaller schools. He said one of the first things he finds out about kids that he is recruiting is do they love football. Passion for football is something you can't fake. And it's too intense of a game to win with guys who half *** it.

Just look at Eddie Johnson and Deon Bush this early in Golden's tenure. Johnson runs people down like they just mugged his Mother and are getting away. He makes sure to pop up and let the other sideline know who just made that tackle. Then you have Deon, who has no regard for his well-being. He got comfortable in the final, I wanna say 5 games, and he started showing up everywhere. Angry, too. He hits people like a Kamikaze pilot. I remember him being ****ed that they wanted to take him out of the VT game after he cracked someone and destroyed his own shoulder.

Guys like that are just wired differently. They take it personally when someone scores on them. Or when they miss a tackle. It eats at them inside and fuels them to go harder. Huge disparity between that and some of the kids during the Dark Ages here that visibly didn't give a **** if they were getting destroyed. They were just happy to be at Miami and couldn't wait to go out that night. We need guys who have the mindset that this isn't "just a game." I'm not exactly sure how you discover that information about a recruit, but I think Golden has a handle on it.

Interestingly enough, Deon wasn't known for that attitude in HS. He was an enigma.

lb competition might be as fun as wr...besides 52 all spots are up...who has the most upside at lb? kirby? terry? blue? grace? 6? we really dont know yet

I remember some people had doubts about Bush in HS too. Didn't seem to make as many plays as he should have. After the first two recruiting cycles, I don't have any doubt that Golden knows what he's doing. I was worried at first with some of his takes and I remember people were saying, "this isn't Temple", but he just takes guys he likes, **** the star rating.

Terry and Eddie Johnson are two other underrecruited guys who fit the explosive/high-motor model.

You just need to watch Bond's highlights once to be sold. He is bat crazy out there on the field.

Loved watching that dude just crush the tackles off the edge, QB's should be worried, very worried. And he's explosive enough to chase down scrambling QB's.

I was actually impressed wth Terry's ability to rush the passer in his limited time. Kid could be nasty with some more weight.

If Terry can keep himself from getting thrown off the team he's one of those dudes who will emerge from nowhere and be a star. He's a perfect blend of athletic ability, chip on shoulder, and desire to be great. He needs to find a way to channel that anger and those inner demons into something productive.

When he made that inside move in the last game against Duke, I had to rub my eyes and slap myself

He's a superior athlete. There is zero doubt in my mind about that. Needs experience playing the game of football, needs to grow physically, and needs to find a way to channel that anger and aggression properly.

Another case for Dr. Golden

You can tell that something clicked with him. I, too, saw him play in high school and thought to myself that the kid was missing that want-to to make plays. He seemed almost to just coast through games without really making a significant impact. All the physical attributes you would look for in a player but for whatever reason it didn't translate into on field production.

Fast forward to this year and I was blown away by all the plays he was making. Not only the bone jarring hits, but his understanding of coverages, zones, angles ect.

You can tell he really settled in the last 6 games and was playing confident. I expect a huge year from him this upcoming year and we will start seeing some actual play making which has been missing from our secondary since K. Phillips freshmen year.

Can't wait to see him laying the lumber with another 10-15 lbs on his frame.
