Desmond Phillips

Is it possible that Malek Young and/or Carlos Becker are viewed as better options? How do these guys compare to Desmond Phillips?

IMO both Becker and Young are DBs at the next level. However, they could've dropped Phillips because they feel good with Richards, pie, or Victor.

Phillips may not have been dropped but that's unclear atm

Kyle, do you think he was dropped or is legitimately looking around?

This has the smell of the kid being a dropped, and IMO is a huge mistake. Moves like this is what left Golden either empty handed or scrambling for Plan F options on signing day.

Here's his tape. This is against Central, American Heritage, Northwestern, Columbus and other defenses littered with Power Five athletes.

Richt is clearing out the lower tier. It seems pretty clear to me.

This kid isn't lower tier.

He seems to be in the lower tier in our class. Also, judging by his offers, he's either the best kept secret in Fla or some people on this board are over hyping him. Just an opinion. One that Richt obviously seems to share. But you are also entitled to your opinion. Only time will tell.

Watch the film, kid is electric with the ball in his hands, and did it against legit competition.

If we dropped him, it's a dumb decision.

I am excited about Richt and think he's a great recruiter, but his record as an evaluator is mixed. This would be highly disappointing if we dropped him.

Even if Richards and Victor/Pie want in?

That's at least 4 or 5 WRs in this class. The DB haul could be looking up, too.

I'm fine with this so long as Richt closes well.

A new coach owes nothing to kids that committed to the previous staff/in between. He's making his own evaluations and has every right to do so. If Phillips got pushed out, so be it. We will find out in a couple of years how that turned out.

Then again, it's entirely possible it was his decision.

We need 4 or 5. Most importantly, we need speed and playmaking ability. Phillips brings that.

If we are going to drop somebody, drop Henderson. He may end up a good player like Ismael in Syracuse but we have that type on our roster already. We don't have a Phillips.

I'm unsure on both Hinson and Phillips. With Hinson, I saw a tweet from Scott golden, respectable bball guy in FL, that said Hinson is focusing on basketball. But, I keep hearing rumors of Hinson to UF.

Regarding Phillips, he hadn't set up his official visit to Miami yet when I spoke to him so I was concerned he was getting dropped. However, the next day he had an in home visit with the coaches.

I'm unsure but if I had to guess, I would say they were dropped

Dont care I've learned from watching FSU own us for so long that stars matter.... who tf is letting an interim HC accept commitments anyway?

I agree, his film looks good. But I've been tricked by "highlights" before. I'm going to trust the coaches of all the power 5 schools that are recruiting this kid. Right now, aside from Miami, it looks like he has one offer from a Power 5 school (Oregon State). His official visits are to Toledo and Temple? Come on man. We don't need more of this. Lets hunt for the big game.

evan hinson and desmond phillips gone, and jawon hamilton looks like he is about to decommit as well .......... now if only reginald henderson, jaquwan nelson, and deion jackson hurry and get lost we can get rid of the rejects that golden offered cause no one else would come here to play for his sorry ***......

richt comes and starts offering kids we should be offering like carlos becker and dontye carriere-williams.......thank god we got a coach with some brains and knows what kind of players miami needs........

Thw interim coach lets the interim coach accept commitments. Blake James ain't watching film out here

DMoney, ive gone on record saying im not a huge fan of Victor. BUT I know that alot of posters like him from his performances at the camp circuits. So I am willing to give him a chance. (he really scares me because he reminds me so much of Lance Leggett. Body language on the field, the way he is built..the whole nine..)

So him aside, if it were between DPhillips and Pie Young for that WR slot...which would choose?

They already told Nelson his offer will stand. There are still questions of whether he will qualify or not though

IMO you don't n't necessarily have to fill all 85 spots this year. . Leave some room for some studs after Richt has had a whole year to recruit.. Don't just fill them with bodies.. Who knows we may get some NSD surprises

Totally agree with this. You only take MIAMI quality types. Never settle to fill up a roster.

Not a fan of this but I guess how many of these slot types can we have on one team?..we already got BBerrios, we got SBruce, got a REALLY good shot at EGreene next year..

Not saying I agree with dropping him because he is a local kid from a school that I would like for us to get some inroads into..but I guess we have to trust Richt on this one. We all said that we were tired of taking chances on projects regardless of whether we thought they would pan out or not...If we can get Victor or Pie Young, I can see this all day.

And I agree that Henderson is next.

I dont pull the trigger on letting JNelson go just yet even though I know he could be the next on the chopping block..The kid had a monster SR year. Only Brian Burns or a stud of this caliber should push him out the class.

Agreed. I trust coach has a plan that requires some commits will have their offers rescinded. Happens anytime a new coach takes over. It may not be positional, but could be to make room for other positions to get better talent. I can truly see our talent level getting much better with the available top talent still out there.

I like Phillips, but if he's replaced by Richards, Victor or a combination of both, would you really be upset? Dudes coach Richt is gonna surprise us in the coming weeks with the changes to the commitment list.

Phillips speed is overated. He has solid speed but he is not a blazer. He also is a project at wr. Why take a project wr when you can get more proven guys at that spot.

Kid has skill with the ball in his hands, looks tough to contain him, maybe he is just worried about the WR coach we don't have yet or pushed out
