Denzel Perryman

Golden and D'Onofrio both say Spence is the best player they've ever coached.

I'd bet my life that the people who won't put Spence up with Beason (I think he's above him, personally) wouldn't put Beason up with George Mira Jr. in 2006. Revisionist history.

People seem to have the idea that because Spence played with a lot of weaker talent on defense that the guy wasn't a stud. Imagine Spence with a Vince Wilfork or Jerome McDougle to take pressure off of him. To me Spence is better than Beason and pretty close to Dan Morgan.

That. D.J. was a physical freak and a good player but was the total opposite of Spence in terms of instincts. Spence is a great player in his own right. He never had the luxury of taking himself out of plays to blow up the wrong guy like D.J. continuously did. He had to do everything for us last year. I realize OMG Shannon sux and we went 6-6 but come on man.

Well, I do appreciate the theory that he is just a soph but heck we got ppl saying Duke Johnson will be the best back ever at the U after one game! LOL Hey Perryman is a stud no coubt, but I agree with the theory of imagine if he had a useful DT! But he didnt and he was a very good player. I dont want to get into the game of comparing players of the past to player of the now. I mean its one thing to say he reminds you of so and so but to say ohh he is better than so and so is just kind of lame to me.

Denzel Perryman is a STUD! can that be enough?

Spence's finished product is still greater than current DP, but DP is on track to be better than Spence.

DP was still blocked pretty good on KSU's second TD - the run. But Perryman is going to be great here and hopefully he won't sophomore slump like Spence did (obviously game 1 is an indication that he won't)

What I'm really hoping is the fact that Perryman is 5'11 tops gives us a chance to have him here for 4 years (is that optimistic?)

Spence was overvalued. He was a solid player on a bad team so his legend apparently continues to grows. He is not in the same breath as Vilma, DJ, **** even Beason. Perryman has a chance to be.

Spence was a far better college player then Beason.

Crazy how little respect Spence gets.

Yeah he was undersized and would get swallowed up sometimes but he was a **** good player. Everyone raves about Perrymans explosive tackling but pound for pound Spence could hit like a ************.

DP is one of the best true sophomore LB's we've ever had. He could start for a lot of teams around the country right now. Smart, instinctual, and extremely fast and physical. I think he was playing better than almost anyone on the defense late last year including Spence.

Check me back when Denzel's UM career is done.

However, I personally favor Denzel over Spence at the same stage in their careers. That's not a knock on Spence whatsoever, but me wanting Denzel to be that much of a bad ***. Denzel has a higher ceiling IMO.

Spence always had NFL caliber around him for his career though (Antonio Dixon, McCarthy, Moncur, Ojomo, Bailey, Sharpton, Harris). Sure the defensive schemes sucked for Spence, but Denzel is playing with far less on the field don't kid yourself. Loved Spence though and will always appreciate what he brought to the table.
