Dennis Dodd: NCAA Investigating a Few Schools Over NIL

This is so accurate it is scary. NCAA will never, ever win in court when the litigant on the other side is a kid arguing that in a capitalist country he should have the right to be paid.
NCAA needed you advising them about 10 years ago (If anyone would have listened).
Don’t know who their attorneys are but they shouldn’t be employed…I’ve seen this coming since Maurice Clarett and I wasn’t in law school yet.

I know it was a different issue but you could see the writing on the wall especially when the OSU QB (forgot his name) got in trouble for some autographs.

That was the time right there for the NCAA to implement something. Malpractice on them.

And the worst thing this is a non partisan issue. The right is all about free trade and capitalism and the left is all about not allowing schools/businesses to make money off the back of poor Jonny from the hood.

They are unlikely to lobby their way out of this mess either.

Terrell Pryor, and a few others. Suspended for trading their merch for tattoos. Sounds ridiculous in retrospect doesn’t it.

It does for sure, but he's from the small town where I live and I can assure you he was getting a **** of a lot more than free tattoos.

What does an NIL violation even look like? What are the rules?

School sets it up. Compensation is not fair market value. Work done to earn comp is a sham.

I would imagine that those are the primary concerns.

I figured. Its just funny that the tattoos were what resulted in the suspension. I grew up in Ann Arbor and watched all the good bball players get hooked up with cars and food. it was the norm and no one batted an eye

Their is a whole department at Miami and most schools who monitor and make sure the deals do not violate ncaa rules. There are protocols that need to be followed.
Yes but do these type of dept's coordinate in clearinghouse fashion with the paper bag guys at schools like Bama (Whose guardian angle runs the NCAA)- that can get awful confusing.
