Defensive numbers this year….****

Some of this stuff is so stupid.

Use your **** eyes, you know what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. The defense is not responsible for opposing special teams touchdowns and when the opposing defense scores. You know when a situation should be blamed on the defense and when it is not on the defense.

Example: Against UF, when UF blocked the punt and they got the ball on the Miami 9 yard line. Of course UF was going to score some points (3 or 7) after we allowed a punt block. This is somewhat understandable and expected.

You know when it is okay to tally stats and when they are irrelevant. The defense has sucked and was unable to do anything when it mattered (VT and Duke). You can complain about yards till your blue in the face.

Here is how I see it: The main goal of the defense is to limit points. If the defense can somehow score (TD or Safety) then net out the points from what they let up. Keep it simple.

Against FSU, VT and Duke 131 points (44 per game) were scored. All of which were scored on our defense. At the same time our defense did not score any points of their own to net them out. While it did not help that we turned the ball over so many times against VT (fumbles and the O'Donnell punt), the defense still allowed all of those points.

with the same scheme With Vilma and Sean Taylor PITT doesn't score on that 45 yard run play they had for their 1st TD. At best it's a 3 yard gain.
Disagree?

Vilma might hold that run to 3 yards. Taylor certainly wouldn't have anything to do with it in that range. He played 25 yards deep. That wasn't even an exaggeration. I'm glad some Canes fans aren't hesitant to point it out. The first time I saw that scheme in the opener against FAMU in 2002 I was going nuts. It was as if we were volunteering to play a man short. And it's the reason I think the comparisons of Taylor to Reed are comical. Reed late in his career made aggressive plays at the line of scrimmage. Taylor too often was used like Reed late in his Ravens career, hanging back and waiting for the deep greedy mistake, like Kaepernick made in the Super Bowl.

I'm not moving the goal posts, I'm saying if you are going to compare 2012 to 2013 you have to do so on equal footing. If you want to compare conference play, that's fine, but you also have to compare them in light of the score and situation in each game.

In 2012 every game was a dogfight and the D was actively working to stop the other team. In 2013 Miami had comfortable leads late in three of their games, which put the defense in more of a prevent mode, which allowed long, meaningless drives.

Arent we always in prevent mode?

You give porsters way too much credit for 'knowing'.

Writing about recruiting and the #Canes' front 7. How's this for a stat: UM allowed 240 YPG to SSU, FAU and USF. Vs. other 9 opponents ..Canes allowed 475 YPG, which would rank 110th nationally over a full season. UM was 120th in yards allowed last season (486).

yeah, if you exclude the same cupcakes that everyone plays we suck in comparison - that's an extremely stupid argument

In games against ACC opponents, #Canes went from second-to-last in total D (504.9) to last (481.9). Flip-flopped with Duke.

Miami also blew out 3 ACC opponents this year and gave up a great deal of yards in garbage time. Last year they didn't play in a single blowout and ran their regular defense the entire game.

Take away GaTech's garbage drive, UVA's 2 garbage drives, and Pitt's 1 garbage drive, and that lowers the defense down to around 440 yards per game. Not incredible, but certainly better than last year.

Is that you Dorito?

anyone making any kind of argument defending the defensive play is flat out laughable at this point. just pathetic. splitting hairs of whether the play was better than last year, which was the worst defense in school history. marinate on that

Right!

Where is the improvement when you are second to last in total defense in the ACC with nearly all starters coming back from 2012?

Honestly, if you are still defending this defense or trying to spin anything that took place this season with them as a positive, you simply aren't an intelligent person and you need to accept this fact.

having a good punter will help a Defense win the field position battle thus giving the opponents offense a better opportunity to rack up more yards. So really it was all O'donnell's fault

It's not how much the coach knows, it's how much do his players know.

Just like Al Groh these 2 clowns have our guys thinking too much.

To be fair, teams 1-12 have more defensive talent than we do.....:ibisroflmao:
