Defensive line up against wake forest

Really hoping with the injuries we’ve had we can get some guys healed up/back from injury for Wake. Mauigoa has been knicked up, Barrow has been knicked up and Alston & Popo have missed the last couple of games as well as Damari who should be coming back. I think we under estimate all of their impacts. (Meaning Brown/Alston/Popo being out)

Our lineup should look something like this

- DE - Bain
- DT - Barrow
- DL - Messidor
- DE - Baron/Alston
- OLB* - Alston (*when going 3 DL) /Bissainthee
- MLB - Mauigoa/Popo
- OLB - Popo/Bryant
- NC - Brown/Powell
- CB - Frederique/Hill
- S - Powell/Patterson
- S - Harris/Patterson
- CB - Porter/Brown

Although not a HUGE change I think it will help more than people may realize. Both Alston and Popo have been very solid for us this year and Brown is one of the most physically talented DBs we have on the roster and we are thin there.

On another note (knock on wood) we have been very blessed with our health on the Offensive side of the ball it’s been incredible.

@StevoBevo can you make any sense of the defensive game plan Guidry had for the GaTech game?

I’m not saying I think it makes all the difference or any difference but it’s the last hope for the defense..

Curious to see what it looks like with Damari at Nickel. They went all off-season preparing with him there and it settles out the rest of the backend.
Powell needs to play slot. Porter and OJ outside. Patterson and Markeith (if they ever find him) at S. Alderman at M. We can win a MNC with that D and Cam hitting the underneath R.

I'm not sure why Markeith can't see the field. He will at least hit someone and moves well enough to fill holes quick. He can play the ball in the air and hits hard. Seems like a good solution to me even if he's lost at times because so is everyone else that can't do the basic stuff.

I saw enough of Zaquan. He looked worse than Harris with increased snaps.

unfortuantely the back ups are back ups for a reason
thats the concerning part that the best we have is what we trot out there

Yeah, that would a crazy safety combination. Failing to communicate now & we’re putting two inexperienced players at safety. Good luck,

Zaquan did play like **** at Georgia Tech but only in 9 snaps. IMHO, the defensive game plan had all the guys' heads spinning. You can play or you can think - you can't do both.

If he only played 9 snaps, then it's indicative of him not being ready. He had at least 2, maybe 3 blown coverages....so 20-33% clip. I was as excited as anyone for Zaquan to see the field this year with what we had coming back at S bc he's physically talented, but the worst plays in the defensive backfield against GT had him and/or Meesh as a component. If he's not quite ready mentally, you can't throw him out there and damage his confidence/development unless you are sure he can handle it.

I am with you 99.9% but the worse play I saw was Porter allowing the receiver inside on the TD throw - that's recess level football **** UNLESS DC had him do it then we are really are screwed.

This is a scorching hot take but Brown should be trained to play free safety once he returns. Can't have Powell (or Harris) back there taking the worst possible angle and allowing numerous explosive plays. Live or die with Brown and Patterson as your safeties.

Not really a hot take. I think Anez Cooper would even be a better option that Harris and Powell

Patterson is a talent & will be fine, but ran himself to the Palm Beach county line on critical late 3rd & 18 conversion. One of many beauties witnessed Saturday by Coach Guidry’s unit.

Almost seems as if Zayquan might have benefitted from increased snaps earlier in the season. Instead we watched 0 and 7 log all the snaps now he is lost 10 games in.

His attempts at tackling ball carriers in 2024 have been....something.

Also, this may not be fair but if he was truly committed he would likely have gained more than .00012 pounds since arriving way back in January 2022.

When did he attempt to tackle a ball carrier?

He's certainly borderline two-dimensional. But can he be a worse tackler than Jaden Harris? Maybe he can cover someone? Or at least be in the vicinity?
