Defensive adjustments

In what world is playing UF and UL playing poor competition when compared to a year when we played ND and KSU?
2013 Schedule was not easier than 2012. I don't care what a flawed SOS metric says.

wow

Yeah exactly. Fiesta Bowl participant and MNC participant is just as easy as a 4-8,
offensively-inept UF and UL.

Soley looking at UFs record highlights the level of analysis used by some. Typical of how a chick not into sports would do when gauging a team.
Oh look they ended 4-8 which means they must have sucked. Wow impressive.

Dunno how that offensively inept team managed to win 11 games in the SEC the previous season. Luck I guess

It really is astonishing to me that there are the amount of people there are who will go to insane extents to make excuses for this team. The numbers are there and they are irrefutable.

Which excuses are you talking about exactly? The one where when one says we won more games that the prior year, only for someone to bring up "The Schedule".

Or one where one says we beat a couple of teams with equal or better talent, only for someone to say "no I dont think they had more talent, look at the 4-8 record".

Or when someone says how much our team struggled once Dorsett and Duke went down, only for others to say it wasn't a big deal and should have no impact on the defense.

Those are some pretty dumb excuses, we agree.

They are not excuses. They are facts to consider when analyzing our football team. Cool we won more games than the prior year. Was that done in a vacuum? Cool we beat UF. Was that done in a vacuum? They are excuses to you because they tear down your shallow arguments. Besides the current facts we have to refute your "winning more games" argument, we have our last head coach to look at as an example. Did he not increase the wins for 3 years? I'm not sure why so many of you cling to this argument as if it is some end-all, be-all proof that Golden is in fact improving this team to the level we all want it to be.
he did, but when he took over he had a worse season than his predecessor ..good coaches don't come in and win less games than the guy that just got fired.

it blows my mind the lengths that these idiots go to support F.A.G.

our defense got significantly worse the second these two clowns took over and it hasnt gotten better. teh 2012 defense was worst in school history and the 2013 defense was not significantly better. i would argue it was the same.

I just cant imagine at this point how anyone could support them. I am still shocked that no one was fired. this season is a throw away season. we will get destroyed on defense and the offense will struggle.

book it

This should end the argument that no improvment was made but I suspect it won't. Some folks are just dead set in wanting to believe there wasn't. To each his own.

It isn't improvement. You are just explaining (not really) a reason for not improving (i.e. it was more difficult to improve).

Remember we finished 5-3 last year and 5-3 this year.

I am not trying to be a jerk but the combination of the energy and lack of logic is a deadly combination. People are entitled to their opinions.

At this point we're 37 games in over 3 years. We have a large enough sample to make fair and rational opinions. In terms of improvement in the win department in the ACC from 2012 to 2013...NOPE. We allowed more points, we scored less, turned the ball over more but I admit it was more difficult.

At the end of the day we all want the same thing (WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but we disagree on the process and timeline. If this year ends and the defense looks good and we win more games in the ACC...things will appear to be "improving."

Ditto!

Look how it varies "from the other side".

One guys says "Our out of conference schedule was easier"
another guy says "look at our conference schedule only"
another guy says "look how bad UF because if their 4-8 record" - while at the same time dismissing a 10-2 Duke team
another guy says "if wins is all that matter, just schedule cupcakes" - as if the schedules are not made years in advance
another guy says "the NCAA mess didn't do anything"

The list goes on and on....In the end, we all understand some just dont like the staff, which is fine, their opinion.

All we have is our opinions here, because if I or you or anyone else were real guru's of anything football related, we would not be here.

That's how concrete thinkers see things. They see 2 identical numbers and conclude nothing improved.
Looking at things abstractly you would see a more difficult schedule was played in 2013 therefore an improvement made or else the record would have been worse.
But like I said if you're dead set on thinking a certain way you'll find any angle to support your position.

Also going by Consigliere's concrete view of things Golden has improved the team every year. Thanks for playing bro.

The argument isn't really over whether there was any improvement. There clearly was. The argument should be over whether there was enough improvement, which there was not.

this was tabbed to be an 8-10 win team all year, with 10 wins being an over achievement and anything above that being "icing on the cake"... based on our results, we met expectations..

Yes, but the defense played considerably worse against VaTech than it did the year before, although we did have Mike James and Duke Johnson against them in 2012.

First of all the part in bold is you. The first part is admitting you have a problem.

Second, I see what you are saying but we didn't actually improve. We remained constant. It might have been more difficult but we won the EXACT same amount as last year.

If Golden took over Bama this year they would field the worse defense in Bama history, and the Golden slurpers on this board would say, "those were Saban players tho" smh

If Golden took over Bama, he would no longer be a Cane so I am pretty sure no one would care.

Not saying you are, but this post of yours is pretty stupid. But go ahead and syh and believe this mythical scenario is true.

There's no reason to believe Carter and Kirby will not both experience a year over year improvement that is extremely common for young, talented players

No reason to believe that a better athlete in the Jack spot will generate better results - Muhammed, McCord

No reason to think that just not having a guy like Highsmith on the field won't fix a few things

No reason to think that a guy like Kamalu won't make a leap after getting more practice and more weight room time under his belt

The defense's overall talent level is set to improve, and there are a number of guys who have shown much improvement on the practice field that can translate to the games

No way! It's da schemezzz! Fire errbody and change da schemezzz!

The schemezzz is most definitely an issue. Pull your head out of your ***.

So if the scheme has been successful previously, why is it an issue all of a suddenly?

Where did Golden and Dorito get this scheme, anyway? From their former coach at PSU, Jerry Sandusky?

Makes me sick just thinkingk about it. All the more reason to scrap it.

Where is the improvement?

[During ACC Play] We allowed more points, we scored less points, we had the same record in the ACC. I suppose that is improvement.

you still don't get it... its not about our record... its about how we lost... whats goldens career record against teams with 4 or less losses? smh
