Defense Saved The Season

Without going back and rewatching the game I did notice a lot more three linebacker formations. We played a lot bigger in the interior with Moten and Clark getting a lot of action when they haven’t seen the field much this year. We brought pressure on early downs quite a bit but I also don’t think Wake attacked our edges as much as Georigia Tech and Virginia tech did. They tried to run it right as us and our front was solid.
I agree, but I still think that playing this lineup on D was the best we’ve looked since week 4.

Wake is trash but this defense has been hurt by trash offenses already so this is a nice step. Looked like they simplified a lot of things. Wake was shifting and using motion and our guys didn’t look completely lost outside of a handful of plays. Mesidor was a beast all game. Tyler Barron needs to accept his role as rotational defensive end.
When Alston gets back, Tyler Baron should take his direct deposit and accept his *** on the bench.

Even tho it was only a 4 win wake, the players on defense looked more interested.

What makes me mad, is guidry waiting until this game to make adjustments.

Powell looked very instinctual at nickel. Very comfortable.

Mesidor looked better at End.

Are you sure we didn't add a lot of new, more talented players to the roster over the past couple weeks?

I was told the only way the defense could play better is with substantial upgrade in talent on the defensive roster.

Who was in at nickel? I didn’t get to watch much but saw more Patterson and Alderman from the look of it

Not much nickel was played. We played mostly 4-3 with 4 dbs. That said we played cover 1 a fair number of times and Powell played close to the LOS in a nickel position. His interception came from this alignment.

Alderman played very well.

Edit: After watching the condensed version of the game I stand corrected. In the second half we did play a bunch of 4-2-5 with Powell at nickel. He played it well. Markeith and Patterson were at safety when Meesh played nickel

It was depressing, it wasn't just QB, we had no skill players on the offensive side. It was as bad as you can get on offense
Yeah, that Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman era was a really rough one. We had punter Brian Monroe playing WR at one point because of all the injuries.

That was a tough season for me to go thru. Many bad seasons to come but at the time that was never expected for us to fall like that

Turns out having Kiko play downhill and try to keep him out of space works. Weird.
Man I about punched the TV on that 3rd and 11 to start the game. One of the worst plays I’ve seen him make

But he really really played well from what I saw later in the game
