Jeebus, but Mario did good.

The jury is still out on the defensive backfield, but this defensive front, especially one coached by JT, is going to feast.

We beat the Gator. And since we lost to the Nole with a third string QB, don't tell me we're not beating the Nole this year. I think the Rock packs this year and we roll.

Now if only Mario can learn when to kneel....
Well, with how good I think our defensive line will be, if our secondary is even solid, when I say solid I mean a little above average, just a tad bit above average we will be perfectly fine

This pick up stabilizes the DL, because he adds depth & isn't being asked to be a starter though he could be.

A 4-man Edge rush rotation of Bain, Mesidor, Alston & Baron, is exactly what you push all your chips in the middle of the table for when you're in WIN NOW mode.

He's not being asked to come in & anchor the Strong side as the primary starter. His job (I suspect), will be to simply get the QB on pass rush downs. Pressure the pocket & disrupt rhythm, at probably around 35-40 snaps a game.

What I like most, is that last year was the best season of his career, which means he's steadily improved over his 4 years in college. And now this is money year, so his draft status is on the line & all he has to do is get to the QB. He fulfilled his role well playing next to James Pearce Jr last year, who will likely end up as top 5 pick in the 2025 draft. So in this situation, he can play a similar role, with reduced responsibilities & still have equal impact.

Unless he just ends up getting hurt & never plays...

But aside from that, it's a low risk, high reward add that gives us on paper, one of the best DLines in the ACC.

I've been fighting it but now I'm starting to let my mind wonder off into fantasizing about us winning it all. Trying not to get my hopes up too high but these acquisitions are making it hard lol

All is a stretch but honestly this roster is good enough to do that fsu did last year. I think this offense can be better than theirs and defense maybe slightly worse. But they went 13-0 in this god awful league, there’s really no reason we can’t.

I suspect this is going to be a very, very good football team this year. Easily one of the 15 best in the country.

As far as overall record and outlook, I’m still sticking with minimum 10 wins or we have some really ****** coaches. It’s just really, really hard to win em all. But 10-2 with 11-1 upside if everyone stays relatively healthy should be the expectation.

He’s a good player. But he’s a bit of a can crusher. He had 12.5 total sacks in 3 years, but half were out of conference. Most of his sacks in SEC play were against lower teams like Vandy, Kentucky, Mizzou. He did not have sacks in big games and had a hard time holding the edge against the run. He does generate a lot of pressure though. He will be a nightmare DE3. Just setting expectations from seeing him his entire career

This is the group of guys he mixed it up with. Keep in mind he is in the sec east so he has to play who he has to play.

Mizzou:

Kentucky:

Vandy:
I think Tyler Steen who transferred to Bama in 2022

This DE rotation is going to be ungodly

1st Team
SDE Rueben Bain SO 6-3 275 (2023 All-ACC Third Team)
WDE Tyler Baron RSR 6-5 260 (2023 All-SEC Third Team)

2nd Team

SDE Akheem Mesidor RJR 6-3 280 (2022 All-ACC Honorable Mention)
WDE Elijah Alston RSR 6-2 256 (2023 All-SBC Third Team)

Then you add in the remaining DE's and its going to be nasty

SDE Anthony Campbell RSR 6-7 300
SDE Armondo Blount FR 6-4 275 (5 Star in 2024 class)
SDE Cole McConathy FR 6-5 245
WDE Malik Bryant SO 6-2 230
WDE Marquise Lightfoot FR 6-5 240 (5 Star in 2024 class)
WDE Booker Pickett Jr. FR 6-3 215
WDE Elias Rudolph FR 6-5 220

Guidry has all the weapons in the world now to attack QBs with aggression. Most of the defense on the second and third level returns, there's familiarity with the scheme and the talent on the first level is absolutely loaded.

Good grief. I'm not ready to honk the horns yet but there's some cautious optimism building.
