DB Recruiting

Not sold on Hodges, Branch and definitely not on Washington. We need to do much better. We lose Francois and this is an extremely average DB class.

Have you seen Hodges SR Hudl film so far this year? What is there not be sold on?

Sold on them all except Washington. I think all four of Hodges, Clarke, Balom, and Branch are underrated. It's a very good db class. If you throw in Restrepo who also looks like a stud as db its an A- class. No uber elite 1st round guys but a lot of guys who on paper could be lower draft picks one day and help us on average win better across the board.

Every clip I have seen of Hodges he looks like a 4* CB. Not sure what the rest of you are watching.

Clarke is an A+ athlete who we need to develop but I trust that Rumph can. If so, he can be a stud for us.

The local posters love Balom so ill take their word for it. Branch looks like can emerge into a freak physically. Put 10-15lbs of muscle on that physique and he will look like Gil Frierson with those long arms.

We have some projects but we also have 2 years to get them ready. Ivey/Blades/Couch/CWilliams can hold down the fort until then.

Lol at very good, sigh...

I’m higher than most on Washington, he’s healthy and playing well this year plus he’s a legit 6’3

We’re lucky that we have another year of bandy blades and Ivey and then after that blades and Ivey. But they will be pushed by couch and Williams. I feel good about our depth. That way we can bring the new guys on slow. Put weight on them and let Rumph get their technique right.

Before he had a 247 rating of 86, I believe but now he has a 89 rating. The reason why he is still low is because of ESPN and rivals

You might have him confused with someone else. He's still rated as an 86. He's still due for a bump. They usually do another adjustment after season is done and a final one after the all star games.

People are sleeping on Hodges. I wasn't a big fan of the take at the time but he's proven to be a lockdown corner in camps and now this season as well.

Clarke and Balom should be consensus 4 star guys or close to it by EOY. Really like both of those takes.

Branch is already at the borderline-4 star level and has an offer from Auburn, who are probably the best defense in CFB this year. He'd probably be rated even higher if he had an LSU offer and who's to say he doesn't pick one up in the coming months?

Francois is the best DB in South Florida and whether or not you like his game, you have to take Washington as part of the package. I still think he's a solid player in his own right.

Not counting Restrepo as part of the DB class since he's more of a Swiss Army knife but he's a net positive if he indeed gets safety reps.

Is this an 'elite' DB haul? Probably not, but coupled with Williams and Couch last year, this is solid B+ work by the staff these past two cycles. Florida in general is down across the defensive backfirled this year so I'm glad we took Balom's commitment now before waiting on Williams or Tennison to hop back into the boat. Outside of Jalen Harrell, I don't think we really 'missed' on anyone locally, although I'd love to add a guy like Royal before NSD.

That’s his composite rating (combines ESPN,rivals and 247 grade) his 247 grade is 89 Ivins and wiltfong can only change his 247 grade

Let me be clear outside of a few dbs that should be in a normal class that we have committed now THIS is bad db recruiting, no sugar coating that and I’ll gladly take any of the 2018 of 2019 db classes over this but we have to see how it plays out but at this point like I said before no point in reaching anymore. Wait until someone shows in the transfer portal
It's a weak SFLA DB class and a weak national DB class.

We are constantly getting beat by teams with 3 star talent. Maybe we need to bring in some kids with something to prove and beat “basketball schools” first. Then take a few steps up the old ladder in recruiting to beat the schools on top. Just a thought.

Being a down year in SoFla for DBs I honestly really like how this staff has recruited at DB.

Hodges - has the Blades bloodline, frame, athleticism, and sounds like a great sr. year so far. Could take some developing by Rumph but I like the take

Restrepo - How could you not take this kid. Whether he plays CB, S, or WR, he's a leader and a dawg. Good take

Branch - Could be the steal of this DB class if we hold onto him (wouldn't be surprised to see $EC (LSU, UGA, etc.) come in late). Insane frame and his Sr year highlights look great so far. Love me some Louisiana talent.

Francois - best DB in SoFla and a ball hawking safety that we've been missing.

Clarke - Again, another underrated CB that has all the tools to be great (Speed, Ball Skills, long arms, etc.)

Balom - Don't know a ton about Balom yet, but film looks pretty good. Worse case, better depth than a guy like Knowles
