DB Jaden Harris enters the Portal

The real story here

Is that UGA is using the Portal, on both sides of the ball.

UGA was supposed to be one of those examples of teams that strictly relied on their elite HS recruiting & didn't need to use the Portal. You know, one of those teams that a lot of our fans would want us to resemble...

Oh how the tides have turned.

When 20+ kids transfer out after the season, they are left with no option but to replace them. NIL is an uncontrollable monster, lol. You're right that it's hilarious that schools like Clemson and UGA thought they could somehow live above the fray. Pandora is out of the box.

That means their stronghold on HS recruiting is now rendered ineffective.

When they recruit top 5 classes & can't let them sit on the bench for 2 years, it puts them in the same boat as everyone else.

Which makes them weaker on the field, because players aren't as accustomed to their system as they would've been in the past. They don't have enough time to maturate & learn their assignments the same way they could before. UGA used to have a conveyer belt of 5-stars that they could just plug & play whenever they would have an exodus of players due to the Draft. But now due to the Portal, a percentage of their depth is being ransacked & if they're not winning Championships those players have no reason to stick around.

Their dominance over CFB has been nullified by the open market.

I guarantee you any DC worth his salt would’ve fielded a better defense then Guidry did this year with those same exact players, it wouldn’t have a been a good or great defense given the talent in the secondary, but there’s enough talent not to be ALL TIME atrocious against that schedule. I’ve seen better coached high school teams(no cap) than what I saw on defense from Miami this year . All Guidry proved to me was that at the P4 level his scheme is dog water unless he has NFL talent throughout his defense and even then it wasn’t great, look at what Louisville did to us last year and we had two NFL guys back there 🤷🏾‍♂️
Agreed. We just had to be below average on D and we had a chance at a title. Dammit

How can you blame them for a guy who just could not tackle in space, terrible instincts

I think his point is that we may end up seeing Harris learn to tackle and play assignment football at UGA to become a solid college player. Which logic would at least suggest the possibility he was poorly developed at Miami.

It’s more complicated than that, of course. First Harris might never get it right. Second even if he does the fact he got so many reps at Miami may be a reason he figures it out. And finally it could be he has a better relationship with coaches and teammates at UGA so does better there.

Who cares in the end. We’re moving on and hopefully will fix our DB problem. Harris is no longer a factor.

In this version of college football, who is most likely to succeed??

The easy answer is the teams with the best funded NIL I suppose. I think of those teams the ones that can best play the market and anticipate ther needs and loses (everyone will have loses now) will even do better. IMO
It’ll be interesting because there’s a lot of bigger programs that have very rich boosters that are right up there

Tennessee. Clemson. Penn State. A&M/Michigan obviously etc

Some of these places were a little slow to mobilize the money maybe fighting it a bit but I think most realize it’s not a fight they can win now

The teams who know how to manage the Portal best & treat every season as a one-off.

Every year should be looked at like a "Superbowl or bust" kinda deal.

Meaning, load up on as much Free Agent talent as you can & try to catch lightening in a bottle.

But holding back with the anticipation of thinking you're going to have (insert player here) next year, probably isn't gonna work going forward.

Every season has to be procured as if it's your championship year. The old days of trying to build up for 4+ years are over.
