DAY 10 PRACTICE THREAD

I had ne'er noticed the black name text on black jerseys

Uh. Crawford looks like he's been hitting the weights hard.
Bob Sanders II (I hope)
Golden said Dallas was working hard in the weight room after the season.

And I think that could be a good comparison ceiling for Dallas.

Pretty sure Bob ran the fastest 40 time at the combine the year he came out. Dallas just doesn't have that type of explosiveness (not many did). I'm 5'10 and was definitely taller than Bob by quite a bit but he had 20lbs of pure jack on him and I am no stranger to a weight room. He was a freak.

I thought Sanders was probably faster, but I didn't remember him being THAT fast. He was such an awesome player until his body just quit on him.

I bet it does still work. If I had a black jersey and lost it I would be ****ed and bust my *** to get it back. As much about pride as it is about motivation, IMO.

Funny how dudes whose only access to the program is from behind a cpu feel informed enough to opine on what works with the players and what doesn't.

It's pretty obvious isn't it? Every school does something like this. It's just a way rewarding effort and solid play. If you never don't throw the backups a bone then the starters get complacent because there is nobody to push them. This kind of stuff is so ridiculously common throughout football that it's crazy to knock a coach for doing this.

U guys I understand its motivational and all, but these guys that most likely will only see special teams are starting in practice reps. They are taking away first team reps from guys like Grace and Owens, which is unacceptable. I mean would u guys be happy with Gray Crow getting first team reps at QB this late into the offseason? It's the same thing, just a little more extreme.
Also the reason they said Harris has been doing well is because he "doesn't make mistakes". That's so the attitude of this defense and it's annoying to me. It's not because he's "making plays", it's because he "doesn't make mistakes". Maybe that's just me though. Also idk who Bleakverb is

I agree, and that is why our D sucks.
Our D sucks because we want guys who can line up right and not blow assignments? Okie dokie.

Here's to Njoku having a better career than Matthew Thomas.

There are in the same position on their teams' respective depth charts, and Thomas has a year on Njoku. So I'd say there's a good shot...

321.gif

And given his frame, I could see him growing into a Demarcus Ware type player, but faster.

I can see him becoming lawrence taylor but better

**** that was a good one..................had me laughing my *** off.

You're saying a motivational tool, overused, doesn't work to motivate anymore?

Huh.

So what exactly are the backups there for? They NEED those reps so when somebody goes down they have something to fall back on. They dont get reps in a game, and then you wanna take there reps in practice what the **** you think is gunna happen if a injury or suspension forces them into game action. I have ZERO problem with Crow getting reps as long as he isnt getting to many reps, thats the key. You move guys around and see who fits with who, who should play what on certain downs, how do you think coaches figure that out if they dont drop obvious first team guys to give somebody else a shot? There is so much more to it then just put your 1s as the starters, your 2s as the backups and then practice your 1s on 1s and 2s on 2s ect ect all camp.

Grace is the backup to Kirby!! It's not even that I have a prob with the 2nd stringers getting 1st team reps. I have a problem with the 3rd-4th team guys getting 1st team reps. Crow shouldn't be getting anything more than 3rd team reps at any position.

Yes he was. I really like Peyton Manning and am glad he has a Super Bowl, but I don't like how some only define NFL QB's by how many Super Bowls they've won. Bob Sanders won him that Super Bowl. Easily one of the greatest defensive playoff performance I've ever seen. Very few players have been able to singlehandedly dominate a game from the defensive side of the ball.

Perhaps looking at it like our D sucked, this is a new year and having optimism and expectations for Cane's success in 2014 is a wonderful feeling, cool aid notwithstanding. Great to have high hopes for this group of kids.

Went to school with Bob. One of the **** freakiest athletes I've ever seen. Fastest sumbish you can imagine and ruthlessness that was borderline scary. I think Crawford has that same mentality if not quite the athlete Bob was. Still remember all us guys getting together to watch Bob the first time and he basically made Ricky Williams (Texas Tech) tap out he hit him so viciously so many times.

I know....cool story brah

Bob ran so fast and hit people he gave himself concussions

Yep, pretty sure Manning had more ints than td's during that playoff run . Indys D finally helped the offense.

Holes being filled because a lack of depth, why OL guys need to play multiple positions. If and when a strong red shirt group occurs, we will be back.

I bet Maryland wishes they went deeper with there reps that year they lost all there QBs. Point is, crazy **** can happen in football and you need to prepare for what might come up. You need to plan for everything that might happen, the last thing you want is for a situation to come up and your players don't have a single idea how to handle it.

Kirby over Grace is another topic, I'd go with grace but we will see how things shake out once the season starts. That's the great thing about the depth chart, it's not permanent.

Brad Kaaya on the quarterback battle: "Me and Jake are good friends [shrugs]" #Canes

VIDEO: http://instagram.com/p/rugTAPqCLB/

is it lost on anyone that Olsen is sitting right next to kaaya, eating something with his head down staring at his food all the while reporters are asking kaaya about the QB competition between him and heaps?

LOL. This is a typical college student texting posture. Learned behavior to avoid detection by the professor -- they think it works, but it really doesn't. I have seen it in every class.

However, the QB position is a leadership position, if Olsen can't separate his behavior from the average, he is not yet a leader. Lots of work to do here. Hopefully he succeeds. We need as many good QBs as we can get to push the competition.

Freelancing is a killer when you are trying to play a solid defense. Make one play miss two adds up in the end!

Yeah I don't want to knock the kid because he is honestly one of the nicest guys you could meet as well, but he was just way too big for his body. Dude had muscle on top of muscle and **** would just bust. Too bad too because he was something else to watch.

Last thing I will say about him as it relates to recruiting is he was a dude that was pretty much shunned by everyone. I don't have first hand details from his whole process but a basically ended up at Iowa because of a coach connection (one that has landed them other guys from the area including Greg Garmon that people thought was coming to Miami) but that connection is pretty much the only legit scholarship he got. He was an awesome running back in high school but viewed as too small so he had basically no ranking and not many college options. Few years later he is an NFL DPOY. **** happens.

I am loving his attitude. He's basically just telling them he knows he's a badass and he is just waiting until his number is called. I hope he backs it up.
