Day 1 Practice Notes (GRAY HAS ARRIVED)

Crazy idea: maybe they are just working out Tucker at multiple positions? Exactly like they did last fall?

I doubt he'd be wearing 4 if they planned to play him on offense because Dorsett and he wouldn't be allowed to be on the field at the same time with the same number.

Matt Porter ‏@mattyports 49s

In three-man DL front, Chickillo and Kalamu opposite DEs with Jenkins in the middle. Second-team: Pierre, Hamilton with Wyche.

******* 3-4 has me so shook....I don't ever wanna see depth charts

Watching Wyche do short-burst drills. He is not fast. Also, his practice jersey was last worn by David Gilbert. It fit Gilbert better

Wyche has spent a large portion of practice doing conditioning drills. Also frosh DE Mike Smith is wearing a knee brace and has been limited

I told you guys this would happen the JUCO's that dont make it in for spring practice are always way out of shape. He wont be in shape like the rest until the middle of the season. Calvin Heurtelou is the one you should put your hopes on

Call me crazy or a Debbie downer, but I haven't heard Heurtelou's name really pumped as much as one would hope. I have a feeling he may end up passed by Moore or even Jenkins. Despite having been here in the Spring, just haven't heard much of him blowing anyone away. I think Wyche will start over Heurt.

You have heard much from Heurtolou yet? It's day fcking one, and they're not even in pads yet.

Better late then never:crushed:

Yeup and Demetrius is 44 on D
They putting Gus at fullback or something. It doesn't make sense.

Not sure, but are we really going to call all these guys "solid" already? Rosier has lots of potential but is very raw. Williams is solid but hurt. Heaps is a big question mark. Kaaya will be solid. Olsen is a headcase that can go either way.

Lots of potential there, but I wouldn't say they are all "solid" right now.

Nothing personal, but have you been paying attention the last 12 years? This passes the for solid in the QB wasteland that we have been.

How so? We thought Jacory and Marve would be "solid". We thought Morris was going to be at least "solid". Williams with his experience and having been decent as a true Frosh at Memphis was thought to be "Solid". Remember how Preston Dewey, the "prodigy" personally coached by Ty Detmer was going to be "solid"? We have made that assumption year in and year out. And have looked like @ss.

I will wait to see if a few of these guys emerge before declaring them "solid", especially compared to the sh8t show of the last few years. Do they have more potential? Sure. But so far Olsen hasn't shown much of anything except bad judgement and immaturity. Williams looked to be solid, but is hurt. Heaps talks the talk, but has moved around a lot and had a very spotty career. Big question mark there. Kaaya has a ton of potential, and looks solid so far, but he's young.

Will a FEW be solid by the time the season starts? I hope so, and think so. But I just don't see how we can make that assumption right now. Not about 5 of them.

Look, Im not trying to bust the guy's balls, or yours, Im just saying, its this mindset that has led us to disappointment year in and year out. We really have NO idea which Jake Heaps is going to emerge from this Fall. The HS phenom blue chipper, the kid that looked like a stud his Frosh year at BYU, or the guy that faltered and choked, then looked pedestrian at best at Kansas. Williams has never looked like a stud here. He may end up being solid, but a lot depends on how his knee is. Olsen is a walking clusterf*ck who cant stay out of trouble. And hasn't particularly lit it up since he's been here.

Is there a lot of potential there? Yes. But I don't know how many of them are "solid" right now. I suspect that by the time the season starts, 2 or 3 will be.

You are kind of proving the point. Couple guys one year, another some other year, then another one or two. The point here is, we have 5 guys who have not already proven to be losers here. The closest we were to this was Harris and Marve, back to back, high recruits. We might not be looking at Kelly, Kosar, Vinny here but couple drops of water in desert is a wonderful thing. Lighten up. Plenty of time to throw trash later. Enjoy the moment. Heck, we even have Chocolate as possible QB. there we have six now.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Hold up. Im not bagging on any of these guys. Am not complaining about the QBs. AT ALL. Im happy to have some talented guys with potential competing. Im just saying that no one has really emerged right now as a "solid" option that we know can step in and start a game and possibly win. Williams was THOUGHT to be that guy, and looked ok in the Spring, but got hurt. Olsen is not "solid" yet. Kaaya is young. Heaps just got here a few weeks ago.

Im not b*tching at all or trashing any of them. Im just saying Im not ready to say most of them are "solid" at this point. I SUSPECT that Heaps, Williams when his knee is good to go, will be Solid, and maybe one of Kaaya or Olsen will step up and be able to step in if needed.

porter is a negative nelly too. Wyche has lost over 10 pounds since he has been here which means he is willing to work. I think he will put in work the next month.
