Dawson

I’m not as crazy down as most. It’s hard to gauge when everything is clicking it looks like an awesome offense (Texas A&M) then goes to mediocre to bad because your starting qb forgetting how to read a zone coverage after four years in college and your other qb who can’t throw a forward pass in an air raid system.

The verdict is still out. There are sample sizes of it being a quality offense. I’d like to see more variation of the run game. More te involvement (which Dawson directly stated himself for this upcoming season). The biggest thing for me is tempo. Keep the gas going especially with floridas obese dline. It was baffling to me the route concepts we would run when we slowed down the tempo. Again depends if Mario wants to bully ball.
LOL - what I said basically WORD for WORD above.

JINX- You owe me a Coke Bruh 😎!!!

I wonder what Oklahoma State had that Miami didn't?

**Checks Notes**

OH, they have Ollie Gordon.

Yes, and they also actually had a POSITIVE turnover margin for the season.

They forced 22 turnovers.

Miami forced 17.

When you look game by game, it tells an even clearer story:

Oklahoma state won 10 football games, and lost 4 football games.

They had a neutral or positive turnover margin in 10 games. They won all 10 games.

They had a negative turnover margin in 4 games. They lost all 4 games.

Football really isn't rocket science. It's a fairly simple game.

Miami had a neutral or positive turnover margin in only 6 games last year. Record: 5-1
Miami had a negative turnover margin in a shocking 7 games last year. Record: 2-5

It ain't hard to figure out. Stop turning the ******* football over, you'll probably be pretty successful.

Look at the Playoff teams:

Michigan - #1 in the country in turnover margin
Alabama - #22
Texas - #32
Washington - #60 (even for the season)

Just for fun:

FSU - #28....good football team
Oregon - #9.....good football team
Georgia - #49....good football team
Ole Miss - #10.....good football team
Florida - #96......terrible football team
USC, Texas A&M, Auburn -- all disappointing teams, all with negative turnover margins

You can overcome this stuff occasionally. As always, one number doesn't tell the entire story for a whole season. But it's VERY indicative of the football team you have.

What's crazy to me is that we were 31st in yards/game last year. The offense was downright offensive at times last year. Between TVD stinking it up, and also Emory and Jacurri seeing extended time, I thought we'd be far worse than 31. The numbers aren't as bad as I would have anticipated.

YPG isn't a great stat....yards per play is a lot better.

Miami was 28th in the country in yards per play last season. 6.22 YPP. Best output since 2016, when we had about 10 NFL or fringe NFL guys on the offense (Richards, Coley, Njoku, Herndon, Walton, Berrios, Edwards, Homer, KC McDermott, St. Louis, and Kaaya, who was a pretty good college QB in his Junior season)

But you're right. The offense was better than people think, it's just we had a QB who hit defenders in the chest that cost us games, so it seems a lot worse than it was.

To blame it all on TVD is ridiculous, ya he sucked last year but he looked like a star under a good coach in 2021 with very similar talent around him.

Dawson definitely has a lot of questions to answer this year and I don’t think it’s completely crazy to think he is partially responsible for mentally ruining TVD.

I think I had looked recently at that too and was surprised (for the same reason I mentioned above).

We seemed a lot worse than what the numbers would say. I mean, we had some dud offensive games last year. We scored 6 points against NCSt. We played super conservative against both FSU and Clemson. We rolled out Brown against Rutgers and looked really bad. We slept walked through GT.

If you had asked me, I would have guessed we were in the 50s or 60s on both stats.

Here are teams that had at least 9 wins last year that are top 50 in turnover margin:
Michigan
Penn St
Kansas St
Ole Miss
Oregon
Missouri
Nc St
Alabama
FSU
Notre Dame
Liberty
Tulane
Clemson
LSU
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Texas
Arizona
Georgia
SMU

It's Dawsons fault that TVD started playing like 2022 TVD under a different OC?

Does it make you feel better about this years team? lol

Yes, Dawson is the OC and QB coach his job is to have a serviceable QB 12-15 Saturdays a year and he gets paid millions to do that.

Not writing him off after 1 year but definitely a prove it year for him considering he has a highly talented vet this year

What was the constant between 2022 and 2023?

Yes. I was generally down on Dawson last year but the stats lead me to believe maybe I was mistaken. I am hopeful that with an improved roster, there is an uptick on the offensive side. I think we can and should be top 25 in many categories.

Dawson is singlehandedly the biggest threat to the team next season. The influx of talent might only expose him more

Well, I strongly disagree. Every time this program has success, people get hyped and then, we lose to someone whom we should never lose to because we didn't execute at all.

Even if they gameplan, that didn't excuse the poor blocking and the extremely poor defensive effort.

You can proclaim your reasonings, I saw what I saw and it continued throughout the season. It's like clockwork.
Let’s not act like we started 4-0 that often in the past 20 years now. Last time that happened prior to last year was the rosier season and we lost at like game 11. We were game planned for. We got outcoached. And you gonna say we had poor blocking, but TVD was standing in the pocket being a statue (he was hurt) while they sat back and played zone knowing his weakness. Our defense played well enough to have won, especially with our offense having so many turnovers.
Its part of the reason we lost tbh lol the 'leader' of the defense gave up a bomb of a TD cause he went brain dead on the GT TD.
he didn’t go brain dead. He tried to make a play. He’s the type of player that sees something and goes for the pick. The guy in front of him was wide open and would have had a chance to score. But yeah he went for the cheese. Must have been devastating!!

Nah, he went brain dead. If that WR catches the ball in front of him, its not a TD. Its a big completion, but not a TD.
