Dawson

I know we have some new toys but is anyone else worried about Dawson? Wasn’t a good OC before Miami and he wasn’t very good last year either.
Someone talk me off the ledge but I just don’t see it.
I have worries too, im not one of the guys that just place all blame on tyler..But cam’s ability to create out of structure is gonna be huge for us, he will make plays out of nothing that saves dawson.

But i will say even with that there is a lower ceiling than it would be if dawson raised his level. His offense can produce for sure but its just meh to me. The run and pass game isn’t married together well enough, not enough layers schematically its kinda what u see is what u get..Its not a hard picture to solve for a DC. I hope he does raise his level because we can’t just be boom or bust, i think the offense will have to carry us this year

The run game is Mario's and pass is Dawson. Maybe he had difficulty putting them together and making them mesh well.

There’s always a learning curve with any new offense or defense. Dawson’s was the 3rd new offense in 3 years for most of the starters. Add in a few significant injuries and it makes it that much more difficult for the O to gel and Dawson to call plays.

There are obviously a few new pieces on O this year - most notably QB, RB, WR - but it’s year 2 with Dawson and as long as we don’t have any significant injuries, I think he’ll be able to dial up a pretty good O.

The only thing that truly worries me is the lack of creativity in the run game. Our run game was so repetitive time and time again just running it up the middle. Other than that just add a bit more pre play motion and I would be happy. But for the love of god get better run concepts

Dawson was fine last year and is plenty capable of coordinating an offense that can help this team reach all of its realistic goals.

Turnovers were the story of the offense last year, full stop. Miami turned the ball over 21 times in 12 games vs FBS competition. At the end of the day, everything that happens with the offense, good and bad, falls at the feet of the OC. But I’ll bank on Cam Ward throwing the ball to the other team a lot less this year than we saw last year. There were only 12 teams in the entire country who threw more than the 14 interceptions Miami QBs did.

Only ONE of those teams (Oklahoma State) won more than 7 games. The vast majority were under .500. You just can’t win football games when you turn it over consistently.

So Dawson was fine. Miami had a relatively good offense last year, all things considered. It’s just skewed in people’s minds because of how often the ball was given to the other team.

This is 100% true, but I would like him to be a bit more creative in the run game/utilizing TE’s and RBs in passing game, and motion.

The additions of Ward, Martinez,Brown Lofton, Healthy Arroyo, Improved Riley, and our returning starters makes Dawson’s job so much easier.

Injuries at TE completely altered the offense (Reliant on too many 3/4 receiver sets without an actual threat at TE), and our RBs all lacked the ability to break 1vs1 tackles in open space.

Prior to playing in Dawson/Mario offense TVD turned the ball over less in 2 years play than that one year in Dawson offense. (11 in two years vs. 12 in Dawson)

Also TVD threw less ints than Cam Ward their 2 years prior to Dawson/Mario offense. Mind you Mario coming in called TVD one of the best qb in nation, probably the best, the same very fans who blamed TVD for everything said he was better than Caleb Williams after his freshman year, lol..

And mind you I am excited for the offense and have stated on this board they should be top 10 but everything above is facts.

Dawson’s got plenty of toys (pause) at his disposal. He’s gotta be licking his chops (pause). We’ll find out game 1 what he can do with this O.

Also If I dont see Dawson getting our speed on edge with simple plays like this, I might come out the stands in gainesville.

And for the people who need UGA validation before they believe tuff n fizical ball can run those plays

And for the nfl bros

Get your play makers the ******* ball in space!!

With a good to great QB and a solid running game and OL his Offense can be very good. This is what you will see this year.

Yep.

I can only go back to my DM I wrote @RVACane before the GT game. Predicted we would lose because we start feeling ourselves after the start to the season.

Which is exactly what happened.
I hear ya. Last year, the players we thought we leaders, weren't really any kind of leaders.

We are looking at different leadership in the most important position (QB). Also, we brought in a starting DB that just played for the National Championship. Bain proved to be a leader as the season went on and he played more.

I'd bet that the new leadership will be better than previously, mainly cause the bar is low lmao

But that’s not why we lost lol. That’s probably the last reason we lost. We lost because someone on their team saw TVP couldn’t read defenses and game planned for him. And he was already hurt. We lost because of one of the worst fumble calls I’ve ever seen. We lost because we should have taken a knee.. the game was decided already and we didn’t go into victory formation. We got outcoached. Not because we were feeling ourselves lol. It just so happened that we lost but your reasoning was off.

Well, I strongly disagree. Every time this program has success, people get hyped and then, we lose to someone whom we should never lose to because we didn't execute at all.

Even if they gameplan, that didn't excuse the poor blocking and the extremely poor defensive effort.

You can proclaim your reasonings, I saw what I saw and it continued throughout the season. It's like clockwork.

Its part of the reason we lost tbh lol the 'leader' of the defense gave up a bomb of a TD cause he went brain dead on the GT TD.

I wonder what Oklahoma State had that Miami didn't?

**Checks Notes**

OH, they have Ollie Gordon.

I’m not as crazy down as most. It’s hard to gauge when everything is clicking it looks like an awesome offense (Texas A&M) then goes to mediocre to bad because your starting qb forgetting how to read a zone coverage after four years in college and your other qb who can’t throw a forward pass in an air raid system.

The verdict is still out. There are sample sizes of it being a quality offense. I’d like to see more variation of the run game. More te involvement (which Dawson directly stated himself for this upcoming season). The biggest thing for me is tempo. Keep the gas going especially with floridas obese dline. It was baffling to me the route concepts we would run when we slowed down the tempo. Again depends if Mario wants to bully ball.

💯

Our leadership especially TVD and that offense was terrible. Our most vocal leaders were either Lee/X or a player on the sideline.

On the defense you at least had Kiko/Kam/Kichens/Bain - communicating with teammates; in their teammates faces and trying to get ENERGY out of them.

Despite some mental lapses on coverage by the older guys. The D unit as a whole worked well together most games. The offense had no leadership, mental fortitude or identity. With the infusion of talent it’s a net positive.

I think we’re going to be ALOT more talented and I know we will have ALOT more leadership on this team from just the portal transfers alone! @Bender

What's crazy to me is that we were 31st in yards/game last year. The offense was downright offensive at times last year. Between TVD stinking it up, and also Emory and Jacurri seeing extended time, I thought we'd be far worse than 31. The numbers aren't as bad as I would have anticipated.
