David Gilbert, honorable mention Big 10 last season, would become one of the top two defensive ends on UM’s roster (with Anthony Chickillo) if he enrolls, as UM expects.
So what’s the holdup? Wisconsin said contrary to reports, he has not graduated, which is necessary for Gilbert to be eligible to play at UM this season. But Gilbert hopes to graduate in August and has a UM financial package in place.

Gonna feel a lot better about our pass rush once he enrolls.

/if his feet don't fall off

Good news. I hope just hope he gets things squared away quickly so he doesn't miss too if any time when fall practice starts.

Generally speaking summer semester ends by around the 10th of August so that would be a week at least into fall camp. I'll hope for the best but am not optimistic about him getting here, much less contributing right away ( due to his injury history , etc..)

He can afford to miss a week IMO. We don't need him game 1. Let him get acclimated to our system and get healthy to play the UiF week 2...at noon:(

I think he will be a situational pass rusher once he gets on campus. HOPEFULLY, he's been working on his conditioning this whole time.

Very true, can't imagine it's very easy to simulate the South florida heat in Wisconsin.

Regardless of scheme, I have to imagine if you have 3 years of college football under your belt at the position, DE is probably the easiest position to pick up at a new program.

I'm telling you, he could play a HUGE role against UiF. Really hoping this falls into place.

Looking at the depth chart bicho got very nervous.

We currently do not have one pass rushing true DE on the entire roster that has ever actually played.

Not even really a JAG pass rusher.

Need to pray Mccord and a few others can become competent hybrid type rushers in a hurry!

For all the Nervous Nancies, he could walk in a week before the first game and be one of our best DEs. How hard is to "learn" DE when you've been playing it for 3 years at a high D1 level?

I'd rather have him not grinding himself into the ground in practice anyway with that paper mâché foot of his. Save his body and get as many reps out of him as you can when it actually counts.

As for acclimating to S. FL, that shouldn't be a problem as he's from S. FL.

DT was much worse. Not even close

Towards the end of the year with Porter back, along with a developing Pierre and Luther Robinson, DE was without a doubt our worst position on defense.

Just no talent there ready to contribute. Chickillo is our #1 DE when his talent level should make him a rotational guy. Something like Andrew Smith from a couple years back.
