Darrion Owens to transfer

There goes our 2018 chances. Owens leaving is the straw that broke the camels back lol

Jesus christ u would think the kid is jon beason....hes slow as **** always has been i dont get how people fall in love with these tupe of players considering people here root for miami and been fans fot ages. We should know great easily when we see it

they love him because he is leaving now. its a reason to complain. This staff shreds dead weight.
100% agree

I'm sure ppl will even find a negative in Ryan fines leaving

Staff told these kids they wouldn't be playing and gave them the chance to bounce. Frees up space , awesome job shedding dead weight

I agree with the staff telling Fines and others they won't be playing but that is not the case with Owens. He played a lot during OB. He had a good game but can't fault him for wanting to start and play more.

Space being freed up is great, but the other half of the equation is signing Miami caliber replacements. We are a solid B right now in recruiting...we need our A game going forward.

Wow this one doesn’t make sense to me. Kid played a lot. Oh well if you don’t want to be here the. Bue

Kids can be really stupid

we have a problem with kids leaving early when they shouldnt. its been going on for a bit. i dont get it.

our kids live in Miami. When they go out they are like regular guys...i mean regular guys are usually above them on the totem pole as EVERYONE in Miami has money. Alot of these kids playing at hese other big colleges ARE the celebrities in their cities. They are worshipped. I cant tell u how many times ive been at a nightclub and skipped lines with um players in it..lol

Most of are kids chase that quick cash grab. They have constant pro players come back to work out with long money ,cars, jewelery..they want it. **** fsu doesnt even have guys return.

Poor people don't really understand the difference between 3M "now" and 12M "next year". Its all "we made it" to them...especially when you feel as though you are worthy of a hefty second contract before you get in the league. Being a 3rd or 4th Rounder means they get to that second contract sooner then being a first rounder.

Exactly. Not the right way of thinking or if i thought it was right..but its mostly the mindset of our guys. Which differs from alot of the bigger name schools like bama who pay these kids at a level that rushing to the league isnt as important. Contrarily to popular belief nevin shapiro's miso soup days were likely when all of our money was thrown around at players...thats what aspiring freshman get at big name schools...look at that piece of sh*t car rental company with grace and company....miami is small time.

Incredibly small time...

I know its ill to speak of him on this forum, but Uncle Luke speaks about this a lot. These are still kids with families that need to be provided for and these kids are the only way that'll happen. Its why a lot of these players with hefty "offers" out there decide Bama or whatever is for them over Miami. Strictly business. And sadly, the ones that stay here wouldn't even ask for much if you asked them. Being able to have three meals a day was enough for a few players I won't name when I was at UM. 50K for Brandon Washington? His mom likely didn't make 50K in 3 years. Making that to play some football in Canada? Dude is just fine.

Lots of ex ball players in security or teaching and coaching. That modest, honest living is better then anything they've ever seen in their lives.

Also, gotta laugh at dudes on this forum...they can't wait to get rid of **** players - even if they are model students, players, and citizens using their roster spot to get their degree - but get mad online (and probably offline) when some good players want to go to the league early. Ya'll make no sense.

I would love Norton and McIntosh to stay. But I don't know their financial situation. NFL doesn't draft for what you have done or what you are, its what they can turn you into. I don't think McIntosh was ever going to be a R1 player, but if they see him as a starting quality 34 DE or whatever, thats a R2-R3 player every year. You can't get mad at a player for that.

HEY, Owens and Fines are leaving the program "BYE"!! NO NEED IN MAKING EXCUSES WHY THEY NEED TO STAY, THEN NEXT YEAR WE HAVE TO HEAR HOW THOSE PLAYER IS JUST TAKING UP SPACE.. They want out "BYE".. Nobody makes them leave, that's their decision and all we can do is let them go, WE WANT TO BUILD A CHAMPIONSHIP TYPE TEAM SO WE NEED STACK UP TALENT THAT WILL HELP GEY OUR CANES THERE!!

People in here talking about dead weight. LOL
The kid played a ton, especially in the Orange Bowl. He had a very solid game.

Personally I think the kid's pretty good. He's made plenty plays that have impressed me and I always find myself scratching my head as to why he's not a staple.
I'm assuming that he's transferring cause he's unhappy not because he's being pushed out.

Richt definitely isn’t pushing him out. He is depth and plays so he is the one deciding to leave.

Real talk.. I agree..

Will save this post for when some posters blame Gordiner retiring and Owens transferring as reasons for bad defensive play since Malik can’t be the scapegoat..

Disagree with the bolded. The NFL doesn't take on projects. For a DT to go in without proper strength and get drafted on day 3 (rounds 4-7). They're an expendable asset.

Yes, none of us know these players' situations as it relates to finances. Iirc, McIntosh has a brother at Notre Dame and another lining up in 2019 that will be playing Division 1 ball somewhere. His family isn't going to be hurting in the long term. There's a difference getting drafted in the 5th round and getting cut, then waiting a year and possibly going 1st/2nd round because you're more refined at the next level. Team's are willing to be more patient with you at that juncture.

McIntosh could leave and go 3rd/4th round. I think he'd be fine at the league, but think it would behoove him to come back. Norton on the other hand, he needs to come back.

Also, I don't get the hate for talking ad nauseam about this. This is actually a football forum. Everyone laughs about how posters saying they should stay are idiots because they'd make about $400-$500k over 3 years or around that. That's great and all, but wouldn't it better to maximize your time in the league by making sure you're adequately prepared?

They take projects all of the time.

Also, Demarcus Walker went in R2 last year and he's not exactly Hafþr Björnsson. Could list a ton of 43 DT or 34 DE that profile similar to RJM over the years that are drafted before R4. Montravius Adams, too, last year.

As for the last part about NFL salary...again...see the point about that many of these kids are really poor. 500K RIGHT NOW? That changes their family situation immediately. That might not be (or might be) RJM, but who knows...who is to say he is a R1 player next year? who is to say he doesn't blow out his knee in spring ball? I mean, 500K right now and playing NFL football, while starting to get vested in retirement, insurance, be a part of the union, etc, ASAP is important.

Lets not make this a discussion about the ever decreasing shelf life of a football player...BUT, a lot of players want to get out as soon as possible with the growing concern over future head trauma...asking them to play for free for one more year? Seems, selfish...players can do what is best for them, as far as I am concerned.

All this means to me is d-tackle and linebacker depth is a problem that a team hoping to compete for any sort of Championship will not be able to overcome. And the lack of foresight by our coaches to land top recruits at those positions is going to bite us. I don't care if Carter rolls down to linebacker either. You need depth and studs for our abominable special teams. A lot of my hopes for being a really good team next year is dwindling.

Owens wants more playing time for a crack at the NFL

Im sure this isnt surprising to the staff coming down the stretch and they have some feelers for someone

And this is y most have been hollering for Nik to be recruited as well.

Nah. Just like chatfield hes definitely not a lb (atleast initially) hes a project & itll take time to coach him up. Well need and im sure get some linebackers that are game ready.

Eh, we know what he is...a below-average (due to injury) player. I'd rather the young LBs get those snaps and develop.

I expect more purging of Golden's scrubs.
