Dallas Crawford

He isn't very big, which could explain why he isn't on D. Then again, AJ Highsmith isn't that much bigger.

After seeing Crawford's frame I can't imagine him at S, he's tiny.

Has played pretty well on STs, would like to see what he can do with the ball in his hands.

He's faster than Ahmad Black and much bigger as well. If Black can be a solid nickel safety in the NFL, Crawford can see action on defense in front of the clueless veteran JAGs we have right now. It's not like he's helping us win by watching Duke and Clements trot onto the field.

I don't care if he is 5'9...he has the ball hawking/play making ability we've been lacking on defense for some time now.

Telemaque is 6'2 and can't play for ****.

This, Bob Snaders was about 5'8'' and he was a pro bowl safety.

I've known Bob for most of my life (cool story bro) and he is the fastest most explosive dude I've ever seen. Tough to compare anyone to him.

And Crawford is not as explosive, just pointing out that size isn't the end all be all.

Do people really think this guy is some kind of awesome playmaker but the coaches have him way down on the depth chart at RB?

Doubtful. He probably isn't very good at playing DB at this level.

Did he ever really get the chance? He was the scout team QB for much of last year and they thought he could be a playmaker, not sure he ever really got a shot at DB. I realize he came in over weight and slow, but kid seems to have lost the bad weight, just want to see him somewhere.

Ok lets get some facts in before the speculation:
-Say what you wish, Crawford was good in the secondary as he played well last year in the secondary on Scout team (Scout D player of the year)
-Crawford is a RS Fr, this means that if this year is "wasted" he will only be a Sophomore.
Speculation:
-Golden needed an impact speed back heading into spring practice. My belief is that it was because he believed that Duke was the real deal and wanted to start getting the Offense ready to run some plays for him. Essentially what duke is doing now (slot reciever+ speed back) is what Crawford did in the spring. Thus, either Golden really wanted to impliment those plays, or he thought of getting the kinks ironed out for when Duke comes in. Either way, by BC they had several plays and packages set up to maximize a player of Crawford/Dukes play style. Personally, I believe that Crawford switch in the spring is responsible as there was probably little time for it in fall ball but we'll probably never know. But lets say Golden didn't do it to set up the offense for Duke, think back to spring, the two RB's were james, a bruiser, and clements, a short yardage back. There was no one that could stretch the D or run speed plays. Sure Duke is coming in (this argument is from the point of view that golden did not buy into the hype, for that argument see the previous few sentences) but golden didn't want to take that risk. He needed a speed back. During spring on the roster there was no one else really with a) history of playing offense in that role b) youth. Crawford was the only one. Sure he may be a talented safety but I have 2 seniors (Telemaque, Highsmith,Armstrong not expelled yet), and a junior (Kacy Rodgers). it's the most experienced part of the D and I'm giving up a freshman year up for the ability of having a needed speed back.

Either one of those arguments makes switching crawford a no brainer. Problem with switching is he's stuck there till spring. Take a deep breath, he's a RS Fresh, and wait till spring and see what happens

To both of you, yes he got a chance, and yes he's good. He was scout team player of the year on D

Thanks for the clarification.

WTF do you guys think is going on, that there is some kind of conspiracy against the kid?

Crawford came in fat and out of shape and got moved. Chances are that he isn't that good.

You have no ******* clue if he is good or not. Chances are that he ISN'T good because he doesn't play except on special teams. That holds a lot more weight than him being the scout team player of the year on D. Spencer Whipple was the scout team player of the year on O one year. I guess he's good too.

There is no basis to say that this kid is good right now. None.

The only thing people know about Dallas Crawford is what you see him do on special teams. That is the REAL game film.

1-2 Tackles, 1 Interception (on a weird play) and a penalty.

Remember Denzel making plays on special team last year, standing out. Working the system, getting better and ******* BOOM...STARTING LB.

Oh and there is the fact that Al Golden wants to play the worst players and he lose every game. Al knows Crawford is freak at Safety so he puts him at 4th string RB.

Deadly combination, fat and out of shape. Move him to safety ASAP.

I guess we would like to at least see him get a shot. Any O plays that run through the TEs are wasted plays, and OT hasn't been the difference maker we hoped he would be based on how he finished last season, so with Duke hurt, would be nice to get some spark from a kid that seemed to produce OK against our crappy D.

I hope he does transfer..... two years and you have been switched to two positions.

Don't grandstand just bounce dog if you are not happy.

I have no clue how credible this is, but some dude posted on the Recruiting Forum that Crawford and Dortch are both transfer candidates because they feel like they arent getting a fair chance to play, that Golden is trying to showcase players from certain higher priority schools and areas (Dade?) to help recruiting in those areas. I'm too lazy to go over there and dig up that thread. The thing is, if this is true, why would Golden even use up a schollie on Nate Dortch in the first place just to keep him on the bench? (i can understand Crawford since we were desperately trying to find bodies in 2011) Dortch was a sleeper reach kid IIRC, with an offer from UNC.

Because it's not true. That notion is ******* ridiculous.

There are always guys that sit their first year, ****, I'd think that it'd be a great benefit to them to develop both physically and mentally. I think we do see Crawford get some burn before the end of the year (Duke's going to need a break) and we'll see what we have on our hands. ****, Storm left and he's a better player than Crawford.

The stuff about Golden definitely isn't true, but I can tell you from personal experience that when you're a teenage kid and you feel like you aren't getting a fair shake on the field you come up with all sorts of conspiracy theories. I can totally buy that Crawford and Dortch think that's the case, but it doesn't mean they'll be transferring any time soon.

Crawford is actually playing on special teams, had a nice tackle last week.

We are basically throwing **** at the wall at safety at this point, I just don't see why Crawford wouldn't get a shot. How could he be worse than Rogers/Highsmith/freshmen?

If you don't know what the **** you're doing out there, you can very easily be worse than who's playing. Practice better and you'll get a chance, as Howard recently found out.

Crawford isn't practicing on defense though which is the whole point of this thread. I'm not suggesting just throw him out on the field. But if he was working with the safeties there is a good chance he could contribute there whereas he's a 4.7 change of pace back on offense.
