I can’t think of Willie Williams without remembering his recruiting diaries and laughing
Here’s one I haven’t seen mentioned yet:

I won't name one particular player, but disappointment in the team as a whole.
Coin flip between 1986 team and 2002 team. Both arguably the best teams in the sports' history at the time and lost to inferior competition in the national championship game.
The 1986 game after talking ****, strutting around like roosters in a hen house, and the whole steak dinner fiasco. If they do that ****, they need to back it up and they didn't. More disappointed in the players than the coaches for that one.
The 2002 team lost after winning 34 in a row againt the Suckeyes. More disappointed in the coaches than the players in that one.
Totally forgot about that '92 team. I guess I blacked it out because it hurt so bad. lol I still hate George Teague.Yeah, 2002 was such shades of the 1992 team, sadly—the difference between those championship teams in 1991 and 2001 directly tied to offensive line turnover and not having the horses to go up against teams like Alabama and Ohio State were deep in the trenches.
1986 was all Vinny; five interceptions and no vision that game—the scooter accident, the stories about the girlfriend breaking up with him.... he was in no position to win that game; defense held State Penn to 14 freaking points and Miami STILL lost.
I’ve heard all the stories about Vinny, and I remember watching the game with my dad as a kid, but I never really understood why Jimmy didn’t pull him. What’s up with that? Was there a consensus on why the backup (don’t remember who that was) didn’t get play? Seems if there was so many outside issues and after SO many mistakes, JJ wouldn’t have had the patience to continue with him.Yeah, 2002 was such shades of the 1992 team, sadly—the difference between those championship teams in 1991 and 2001 directly tied to offensive line turnover and not having the horses to go up against teams like Alabama and Ohio State were deep in the trenches.

Coker was terrible… We should have hired Schiano over him when Butch left for the Browns. But Schiano was young and unproven as an HC at the time.I don't know. He did exactly what he was supposed to do. When people talk about when Miami was good they don't even go all the way back to 2001. They go back to 2004/5 when there is still elite talent on the team and every one of them was recruited by Larry. He was the perfect coach for his time.
By the numbers he's one of the all-time greats. Also by rings. Most of his bad years with players he recruited would have been considered a great year for Mario. No losing seasons. He played a tougher schedule.
I'm not defending him I'm just saying that by every rational metric he is the best coach of this century.
