DAILY DEBATE: What numbers should we take in the Portal?

The staff is currently going after two WR's & multiple OL's, so there's a probability they're taking two at each spot.

With youngins like Lightfoot, Pickett, Rudolph & McConathy etc, I think we'll have to go with the youth movement at EDGE, unless a dynamic NFL caliber DE hits the portal.

Cosign, I’ve seen the wishlist and it’s only 3/5. 1cb, 1 safety, 1 nickel. Spring portal could be option for two more once the new DC sees what he sees…

lol they think Zay gonna be ready to be a starting safety? guess this staff thought Harris was good enough

I mean we're also not rumored to be going after any safeties or high quality cbs, so not sure what we're rumored to be targeting or setting up visits for is the best to analyze too much lol.

But anyways yeah it does seem like we probably take 2 WRs given that info. I'd prefer just to get 1 WR who is the best or top 3 in the portal. Idk if you view Daniels as being like a top 3-5 portal WR prospect.... But I'm saying if we get him or a top slot prespect, imo we're good to go. Getting 2 is fine but not necessary. I'd rather spend more on 1 elite guy personally. Like I'd probably just try to get Concepcion and be done. HOWEVER if we don't get a top qb in the portal, yeah we probably need 2 really good WRs in portal...

OL I'm just assuming Samson is out which frees up a lot of money at OL, Cooper is potentially out (but should almost certainly return), and Rodriguez is unlikely to be better than just above average. So I get why they'd recruit 2. I just don't view it as fully neccessary because between Rodriguez, McCoy, and Kinsler I think one can be a starter. Then you add SJ and Buchanan who I believe will both earn a starting job within 2 years... It all depends though, I think we do free up a lot of money with Rivers, Carpenter, and likely Samson leaving... So I see why you can get 2 legit upgrades on the OLine for reasonable investment. So I wouldn't hate it. Plus doing so would remove a lot less pressure on SJ/Buchanan to win a job early...

Oh I agree about EDGE. We need to go with the youth movement, same as with LB. BUT I still think we want a reliable rotational piece. We don't need to spend a lot, but I think we need a vet who can be a decent floor guy in that spot. LB I view similar except in that we need to 100% move to a youth movement. Except there I don't think we need a floor setter rotational guy at all. I'd prefer a legit 3 down LB and move on from Wes and Alderman and go full youth the rest. Otherwise no portal LB at all...

I wouldn't HATE getting 1CB, 1S, 1Nickel if they were all top targets and then pushing it to spring for another two with new DC in place... It would make sense.

But it can't be like we end this portal period with jus that Arizona CB (Not Tacario). We need the kid from Utah or something... idk what everyones portal CB ranking is, but we need a top guy.

Is there any shot Damari moves to Safety or something?

1 QB - starter.
1 RB - not a fan of Fletcher as a ball carrier.
2 WR- slot WR is Dawson's favorite weapon. Do not want to see Ray Ray in a bigger role.
1 TE - Riley Williams has not grown on me.
1 OT - Bell can have a shot but give him competition
1 OG - I think Mccoy is a OL 6 or 7 and that's ok
1 OC - that's just what we do
1 DE - I like some of the young guys but we need a legit guy with some bend on the edge.
1 NT- I like Moten after that ?
2 LB - keep Wes in situational role
3 CB- Oj should be favored to start after that?
2 S - Zayquan could take a leap but I wouldn't risk it after this season embarrassment. Hopefully Harris finds a good landing spot at an HBCU.
1 K- Borregales leaves and I'm terrified of Murray no fault of his but I like some proof of concept.

Getting 1 CB and 1 Safety in spring portal hopefully after they re evaluate the needs. Also probably 1 DT now right? So in spring hopefully they bring in another as well when they see our need, plus no messidor at DT please

15 total, 5 starters for offense with a RB3 and a blocking TE. 7 starters on defense with a rotation DT hopefully above 290.

Yeah, I'm surprised so many feel 2 WRs are a must. If we find 2 great ones, fine. But one experienced WR along with Horton, plus let Trader, Carr, and Robinson, (and Ray Ray if he earns it) get more playing time.
 
QB - 1 (Don't over pay)
HB - 1-2 (Bigger back, preferably)
TE - 0
WR - 1-2 (Field stretcher, priority + Jump Ball guy)
OL - 2 (Interior OL)
DT - 1 (Nose)
DE - 2 (Rush DE + SDE)
LB - 1 (Speed)
CB - 3 (Throw numbers at the problem)
S - 2 (See above)

Because of the 105 number and our smaller HS class, we should be able to bring in 12-15 portal players
