DAILY DEBATE: What is the biggest reason for Miami’s struggles the past 20 years?

Lack of investment and bad evals combined with recruiting the wrong players. Hiring Shannon and Mandy to learn on the job. Golden bad culture fit. Richt health issues but at the time a solid hire.

Horrific luck. We self imposed sanctions for no reason as one example during the Golden years. We hired a coach the players wanted that was literally scared to coach. We picked a coach whose personal standard was great but it was a bit too high for CFB and it was not even imposed on others. There were so many “how is this possible” moments. For all Mario’s issues, they aren’t like many of his predecessors fundamental flaws.

If only Richt would have left Georgia voluntarily to return to Miami say 5 years earlier, things might have been different earlier.

Coaching
Why coaches have failed:

1. QB
2. Discipline
3. Special teams
4. Schemes that don't fit the recruiting base

Anything outside of these is BS and excuses that really don't answer why we're losing to the UVAs of the world 40-3.

Money, money, money, money, Money, got to have it. No need in reading a post in this thread, everything listed falls under Money. Money gets it all.
How did Saban become the supposed, greatest coach ever, money. Call them what you want, Saban had 40 more coaches than Miami. Literally!

Man I don’t know but I’m Really starting to believe there is a spell, voodoo, curse… or something on this program. No LOL. Miami struggle can’t be due to evaluation because year on out, Miami has had the best roster to beat every team in the ACC. Every year!! And even if you say coaching… you’re trying to say in the last 20 years all SIX coaches got it wrong with one of the best, if not the best roster in the conference??? All six coaches??? 😂

I watch games and without fail I can almost call when the play where Miami will shoot themselves on the foot. This program needs a serious Chaplin to come wash away the bad juju.

I deleted my earlier post, I was blaming coker and nevin and the cloud of probation which hurt us for much longer than the 3-year sanctions....

But the admin really **** the bed. Unfortunately, we were hit with probation in consecutive decades, and the admin may have felt the football team wasn't worth the effort and rode on the coattail of butch's team success (not cokers team).

Recruiting, Development, and Retention of athletes.

This of course was root caused by institutional support to program (doing things in the light and dark), having the right organizational structure, and having the singular right leader to drive desired outcome.

Kinda that simple.

If you wanted to get very simplistic, pin the boldface underline and close thread.

Coaching and Evaluations.

Randy, Golden, Richt, and Manny all had the chance to do great things here.

Every single one of them failed to run a modern offense (Manny did, but it was too little too late), and with Golden, it was twice as bad bc he failed to run a defense conducive to his roster (and he had some nice pieces on Defense too).

It's hard to recover from a decade plus series of disappointments and embarrassments. Mario is doing his best (and shoot, even he stumbled out the gate with his coaching hires).

The administration. They just flat out didn't care about the program. They made bad and lazy hires in droves (don't have the heart to include CMR in that bunch) that prevented getting talented players and continuing their development. We all can chant in unison about how the lowlifes in the NCAA turned a blind eye to the SEC and Alabama's for all the world to see cheating, but I believe despite that, a good to great administration would have made every effort to better their program. It took Kirk" Herbie doesn't like to make toys" Herbstreit to call them out in front of millions for them to finally act like they care.

Collectively our Coaches have sucked....

Coaching, evals, development are the obvious ones.

My existential worry is that kid of kid who wants to go to Miami is a certain personality type that’s tough to win with. Either it’s kids who want to stay close to home or kids who want to play football in Miami. It seems like the kids who go to college towns in the middle of nowhere are practicing more/better for whatever reason.

For 20 years we’ve never been at any tactical or developmental advantage. We’ve been at a slight talent advantage, but not enough to overcome the others. That’s been borne in the results. When we’re much much better than other teams we win 9 or 10. When we don’t, we win 6 or 7.

Murphy’s law
Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong
Probably it started the minute Bush walked out and we chose his replacement… it stated to manifest in the Fiesta Bowl
