Defensive coordinator and it’s not close
I would fire Guidry next Wednesday and promote Taylor to DC for the bowl game. Elevate a non-game coaching assistant for the DL spot.Secondary recruiting/portal acquisition is the issue in my opinion. The coaching was abysmal in that unit as well (lack of preparedness, TACKLING, questionable alignment, and pre-snap confusion on field was the result) but also the talent in that unit was below average (putting it nicely). Both issues fall on the coaching staff. I believe they must be replaced. Sooner rather than later if it was my decision.
Linebackers somehow regressed but I am a fan of DNich. DLine stunted out of gaps and the A & B gaps seemed to be a soft spot as a result of stunts.
Jason Taylor probably could have called a better defensive game later in the season than Guidry in my opinion, just intuition here as the guy has seen a lot of great defense in his day. I think the scheme issue we had is that we did not get the pressure on QBs that we all expected to see and the secondary was so **** awful that we routinely have up 30+ pts a game as a result of no pressure on the passer and worse coverage.
Replace Guidry with a proven coordinator (scheme in relation to existing talent matters here), hire a secondary coach that recruits, retain DNich, Somoa Joe, and JT.
I said plenty of times we need to get higher football iq guys. At the same time Guidry was a problem. When you have a weak secondary to begin with why do you keep putting them in man when they are slow and can’t cover? Why do you have a hybrid DE/DT dropping in coverage multiple times? Why do you keep a LB in the game when there is multiple wrs on the field? Why keep putting your mlb who you know isn’t good in space or in coverage in 1on1 situations covering rbs downfield?Players holding themselves accountable for their mental lapses.
I see it so differently from the majority of the board because I actually know plays & know Defensive calls. So when a big plays happen I identified almost immediately where the mistake was made & which player didn't follow his assignment.
People won't see it until next season, but yall really don't get how undisciplined & downright dumb our Defense played this year.
I get it, we gotta hang Guidry in the town square & put all on the blame on him, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but like 80-90% of the issues on Defense were player mistakes.
Who were the leaders on defense? Anybody?Players holding themselves accountable for their mental lapses.

Is it still player accountability when Guidry has been here 2 years and majority of the DBs are still blowing a simple zone assignment? Or is it also the coaches inability to teach the zone assignment/discipline?Players holding themselves accountable for their mental lapses.

The other side of the coin is that they recruited these guys and signed up to teach them. And while I hate to call for someone’s job the secondary was terrible and that is lances’ bread and butterPlayers holding themselves accountable for their mental lapses.
