DAILY DEBATE: What adjustments would you make on offense going from Ward to Beck?

Maybe a bit more tempo. I’m not an inside zone hater (plus the run schemes are a bit more complicated than they’re given credit some times). Really, they can play call/scheme similarly to Dawson’s 1st year with TVD and it’s probably still a top 10-15 offense in the nation. Probably need another impact/#1 receiver unless Jojo makes a huge jump or one of the freshmen is an OJ-esque surprise breakout

Assuming Beck is 100%, and he gets good protection from the OL.

I think the run/pass percentage needs to adjust accordingly.

This can be determined a lot by the chemistry Beck develops with his receivers WHEN he can throw again.

That time will be critical.

We can't afford a slow start, but ND will have a hard time gameplanning for us with all of the turnover on both sides of the ball. Same for us respectively.

I thought Ward missed guys open early in his progression at times, but his ability to stay calm and improvise was on another level. We're going to need Beck to find those guys open early, and not assume the young receivers will help put as much as X, George and Horton did.

Horton leaving us still the most confusing decision by a player, this offseason. He might have made himself a few more dollars this year, but not a good investment for his future. He could have made himself a lot of money in next year's draft by being our #1.

No passes.

All run.

TUFF N FYZICAL.

If that is too masculine of a concept to handle for the sit to make the pee-pee crowd, Dawson et al must game plan for:

Ward mobility >>> Beck mobility

Miami O isn't going to get bailed out with Ward's scoot scoot ability. With that said, I don't believe Beck's assassin-esque arm is going to give up those INTs that Ward did.

As long as Dawson and WRs know they need to get open quick, Beck's accuracy (when he is on) should be very, very, VERY good.

Run the ball 70% of the time.
Do you think that Beck transferred here to play in a run-dominant offense?

Most of these guys think any run out of the shotgun is a draw.

We do run IZ and OZ but we run more gap scheme runs than any other Air Raid offense probably ever. We run power, duo, we trap, we do a lot of traditional run game stuff. We don’t do a ton of counter but that’s kind of the opposite of what we’re trying to do schematically and personnel-wise. We want to bludgeon the defense with a power scheme and big running back. Not fool the defense with misdirection and backs that can change direction quickly.

Hard to argue we should change up too much given we were the #1 offense in the nation.

I personally don't like running tight splits all the time, feel we can be more multiple, which could open up the playbook. I also want to see our RBs involved in the passing game more, but I expect that to happen naturally as Beck will check down more often, not scramble in the backfield until the big play opens up. Other than that, just do whatever it takes to win.

Since he's played in one for the entirety of his career I don't think he more-or-less cares.

He transferred here because he got paid $4million dollars upfront guaranteed, which is likely more than he would've got had he stayed in the draft.

If the Goal is to win the ACC & be a playoff contender, then operating a run heavy Offense is our best shot with him at QB.

Unless we add multiple NFL caliber WR's on the roster by Spring, I don't think you guys would want to see a pass heavy Offense with Beck not having enough weapons, he's not the kinda QB that elevates talent around him.

I would like to see usage of the TE

Run formations from the Pistol and I-Formation

Halfback Screens

Mesh

Crossing Routes

More creative run game

1. Better Defense
2. More creativity in the run game - aka - QUIT RUNNING BETWEEN THE GUARDS 90% of the time.
3 Utilize Lofton in multiple positions

Adjustments?
As fans: let go of any hopes or dreams you have of last seasons O. Adjust yo **** expectations.
As Team: hit the spring portal as hard as possible

More power run like we did in 2023. Love the spread stuff we ran this year with Cam I just don’t know how Beck can run it but maybe he can rip it in that
We didn't have any spread stuff in the run game. We were super simple. Inside zone spam runs in to the same two gaps. Most predictable.run game in the ACC. Good defenses pinched and shot the A gap. We have no outside zone or outside run game. Some thing tells me the run game from 24 is not working in 25. Scheme is too vanilla.

Carson Beck = bro ball offense

I don't trust his arm nor our WRs at this time and I like our OL and RBs.

Outside run concepts. Counter, wide zone, stretch, toss etc. mix it up with the inside zone Mario practically has tattooed on his chest and high percentage throws and we win 10+ again. Assuming the defense is slightly above average.
