Curtis Porter

I wont miss him if he does declare. Other than depth, what has this guy contributed?

I really hope he gets his degree.

CPorter is very valuable. Especially to a 116th ranked defense.

CPorter has shown the power to be a two-gap-type run-stuffer and quickness to be inside penetrator. At times he has demanded a double team. This allows Olsen Pierre and Chick and TMcCord more one on one match-ups. DPerryman, Eddie, Kirby and GPaul can roam free and make tackles.

I hope he stays here and he stays HEALTHY. I hope he gets a U-tough black shirt so he can mix it up inside and also stack and control the line of scrimmage--this is critical to a good defense.

LOL at our football team. Shannon went out and got the biggest collection of underachieving, selfish idiots I have ever witnessed on any level. They all came out of the woodwerks to be with us. The very thought of Porter going pro makes me chuckle as that's a a multimillion dollar mistake.

Let'em go. All of them. Time to finish the purge. We can be as talented as we want to. But if the chemistry of team is off, it will make it that much more difficult to turn all of this around.

Sure he'll be missed next season but the defense has nowhere to go but up regardless of whether he stays or not. The defense played more than half the season without him. Plenty of young talent to step up and take a spot.

i understand your frustration, but completely disagree w/ this approach. There are a lot of good pieces coming back on defense, but we have to have at least decent defensive line play to be solid. There really just isn't "[p]lenty of young talent to step up." The defensive line is so much about strength, and the younger guys are at a major disadvantage trying to match-up w/ grown men.

We've beaten this topic into the grave. Hopefully, the kid does not make a rash decision, reviews his draft rating, and comes to his senses. it will be great for him, and our defense if he is back.

The old saying is "we finished last with you, we can finish last without you." Porter is a good player, we aren't as good without him, hate to see him go, but I just don't think he will be healthy all season anyway. So, not as big a loss if it does happen.

He played the last 5 games this year and during the first 3 of those he was given very limited snaps because of conditioning. He played very sparingly last season because..... he was injured that year too. Let's see, get part of a season out him next season or get another stud here "before sanctions" and have him shirt for the future and get 4 years out that baller? Porter won't make or break anything on this defense. Pierre, Robinson, King, Grimble, Ivery, and Moore will make a nice three deep next season with another offseason under their belts. Add Hooks, Bryant and another JUCO or young baller and there will be plenty of competition.

Saying Porter is going to stay healthy and ball out next season is wishful thinking especially if he isn't on the roster.

The only thing I don't understand is how he could watch Lamar Miller, an absolute stud, fall all the way to the 4th because of injury concerns last year and then still think he, with a FAR worse injury history, should go pro.

Sorry that I don't agree that Porter will make or break this defense. Just don't have any faith him staying healthy. Would rather bring in a young baller to go with Bryant and have him for 4 years than getting another half season out of Porter.

Exactly. No NFL team will take a chance with his injury record. He will get a chance to make an NFL roster but he will not get drafted. If he stays and stays heathy, a good season may see him getting drafted.

Porter should be much better than he is because he has been constantly injured. He's been at Miami forever and has played in 15 games. Shows just how bad things are when you guys are hyping up a kid who hasn't accomplished a thing. Porter would be lucky to make the two deep on old Canes D-lines.

I'll stick to my opinion, Porter will not make or break this defense next season. If he has convinced himself that he is NFL material then I wish him well. Next!!!

A healthy Porter is our best DT right now. I think Pierre could be better than he is with another year of conditioning and experience. We definitely need him to come back. Our run defense gave up over 100 yards less a game when he came back. Hes a difference maker for us in the run defense.

Again, there is no "hype." Porter has shown that when healthy, he is the best DT at Miami.

Do you watch the DL specifically when you watch a Miami football game? Seriously. How often/how much do you pay attention to what the defensive line is doing in a given game?

Someone who makes the claim that Curtis Porter will "not make or break the defense" next year probably doesn't
1. have two (or even one) functional eyes
2. actually watch what the DL is doing
3. have a good feel for the game as to what is going on and what is impacting what
4. all of the above

It literally is beyond my comprehension that you are actually trying to argue that Curtis Porter in not extremely important for our defense next year.
