I have witnessed, felt, and discussed several positive things the last two weeks which is very deserved. I have seen a lack in things we can improve in which isn't bad but is necessary. I think we all know this canes team is really good and can be special. I am just curious and want to give an opportunity to critique and point out stuff that need improvement its still a long season. I will start this by saying our defense seems to be better than our offense which might be contrivertial, but I think we need to get better at hitting shots down field bc I feel we have missed a lot. Also I think our oline could get better at making some bigger holes for the run. Again I’m not complaining or saying we’re bad just looking for everyone’s thoughts on things that can improve because everything has been super super positive and I want to see us get better.

As was written long ago we need faster horses, older whiskey and more money.

yeah I just wanted to hear ppls thoughts I’ve only have been a die hard for 10 years and have never seen us win anything so I wanted to hear from ppl who have seen it to see if we can improve anything and bring back the U
Mario is doing what we did, stockpile real talent and develop them, a few guys are ready to contribute day 1, some aren't quite ready but get on field development because their position needs players, most guys take 2-3 years to really develop, you play the young bucks not ready whenever possible by putting teams away.

The difference now is the portal, you can put brandades on positions, but when you are stacked you can go cherry pick game changers, we are getting there.

Mario needs 4-5 classes, and we will be there fully IMO

Yeah I think you’re definitely right because I’m asking myself can we beat Ohio State or UGA this year? And my answer is not likely and it’s because of depth and experience which is what you’re talking about so that makes a lot of sense. Not saying we can’t beat them at all just saying I wouldn’t favor us

You think the OL could be better at run blocking and the WRs need to be better at winning contested balls downfield?

Well, I think you’re correct. On both counts, to varying degrees.

OL has not been impressive on inside runs, which is a problem when your HC insists on proving his manhood through the performance of inside runs. No counters, few stretch plays, just big man move big man ball man run over big man first down do again.

Great coaches make winning easier, not harder. Mario has made a lot of things a whole lot easier, but this one area continues to confound me. (Also, I know we were down multiple starters. It shows that we don’t have “8 starters” on the line. Which is fine, few teams do.)

Downfield passing is very difficult without coverage busts or a combo of elite accuracy and high end skill sets at WR. I do not see an elite WR on this team from a traits-that-translate-to-deep-balls perspective, able to win contested catches consistently OR make Cam’s life a bit easier by creating separation downfield. It’s hard to do, and it hasn’t developed — yet. I also don’t think this team needs to blow the top off to be highly efficient, which seems to be more Mario/Dawson’s ethos. Lethal efficiency, not 2-3 play drives. It’s more sustainable, it wins more games (typically).

I’m less concerned about the latter than the former. If I had skill points to spend, I’m spending them all in Run Blocking, atm.

Good thread, OP. Good news is we will still win a ton of games, even with some flaws.

I only have one real critique and maybe it’s a combination of things but the running lanes have not been great through 2 games. The OL seems to be really bunched up during most of our runs so either it’s by design to just push forward for that extra yard or two or the interior OL isn’t performing as we expected, yet. I originally just assumed that UFs DL was so big that it made it really clogged up but felt the same against FAMU.

I don't understand why so many people feel like hitting deep bombs down the field should be a high % accuracy likelihood. But yes, we haven't connected on a few we could have. The OL, as long as they stay healthy we'll be fine, there was definitely a drop off without Rivers/Rodriguez. The FAMU game showed both Bell & Samson aren't yet ready to be starters, but they still have time to make the next step.

I think Dunkin Donuts was wrong to remove ham from their menu. I used to get it with egg and cheese usually on a croissant, but occasionally on an English muffin if Jasmine had the breakfast shift. Now all they have is sausage or bacon and they're nowhere near as good.

I'll have more critiques as I go through my day. Thanks for the thread, OP.

Run blocking has been underwhelming. I thought maybe UF's run defense was really stout, but we weren't great against FAMU, either.
Sam Brown has been disappointing.
I'm not sure what's going on with QB2. I pray to God we don't need it.
