Couple things on Adidas deal

Here are a few interesting tidbits on the new deal...

**I'm told that Adidas has plans to make Miami the "Oregon" of their company. They will try a lot of new things with us, have a bunch of uniform combos stacked up for big games, and really try to push Miami into the forefront of their marketing campaign.

**People inside the equipment room hinted at the fact that Nike had become complacent with Miami. They weren't sending as much stuff as they had in the past and as a result, players would have to wear game-used materials. Schools like Florida State, Alabama, Clemson, etc. would get new shipments almost weekly. This did not sit well with Miami. (of course, money also plays a factor in this)

**As far as the designs go, I've heard Adidas will try to model the base uniforms after the 1980's. Mostly one color (orange, white, green) with the stripe around the sleeves.

**I have also heard of a black cleat concept with the eye of a hurricane popping out on the side of the shoe, which would look very cool.

Ultimately I still disagree with the switch, but it's one of those things that we would care less about if the state of the program was different. I also don't think it will "hurt" recruiting like some have suspected it will. Kids like new things, and Adidas will certainly be pushing to make Miami look different.

if it is worth between 90-95 million, where do i sign up.

What people aren't factoring in though is that it's not 90-95 million extra, its (90-95 million - Nike money). Whatever that difference is, is what we are netting.

florida state is 50 million for 10 years and they signed that deal in 2013 (and that was a renegotiated deal). stands to reason that we're getting a significantly larger amount of money than we would have with nike.

@mattyports: Blake James said Adidas deal gives UM significantly more money, teams get more apparel, and Adidas is marketing Miami hard. Win-win-win.

And what good is that money when the powers that be at UM don't use it to invest in the football program, i.e. firing Golden instead of throwing away at least next season as well as at least two recruiting classes, wasting at least half of Kaaya's career, and creating a massive rebuild for the next coach (whenever he arrives)?

More tone-deafness from Blake James and this administration. Disgraceful.

Because lack of money was never the reason they didn't fire Folden, additional income will not lead them to fire him. In fact, as long as people keep throwing money at them they'll be less inclined to change anything.

It's not about the "u", it's all about the $, plain and simple.

I have a friend who is in the business of striking these kind of deals. In his circle, the rumor is that this is a top 5 deal in college sports, so I'm guessing this is at least worth more than an extra 3 mil a year as has been discussed here. If so, anyone thinking that we miami shouldn't have done this vs staying with Nike is absolutely clueless despite the aesthetics and Nike glow. And I'm far from a fan of this program.
That would make this deal pay way more than fsu gets for example.

(On a side note those idiots will look to this as a way to offset some of their losses related to their decision to keep Al and it's impact on cancellations of season tickets and donations. If they would have done the right thing, they would be truly flush with more cash.)

$95 mil. allegedly, are were still going to claim to be "poor" when it comes to paying HC salaries and assistant salaries? the answer......yes

LOLOL at Miami's logic:

Nike starts de-emphasizing UM b/c we are god awful.

Instead of improving their position with Nike, the #1 brand on earth by a mile, by taking the football program seriously, they run to some half rate company that will make us a fake Oregon.

School is run by absolute retards.

Nike used Oregon as a research and development arm. So being Adidas' Oregon is about getting their new and best stuff first. New practice gear would be nice. FSU got new uniforms and Nike gave them new practice gear as well. Didn't do that with us.

I believe what Pete is saying. If you remember last year a bunch of fans were complaining that we had those new "smoke" jerseys but they were paired with the same old pants and cleats. It did not seem like Nike was giving us as much attention. Although they did roll out those new monstrosities this year so be careful for what you wish for I suppose. Either way I really could not care less about the switch. It's a bigger deal for basketball. For football it will not make an ounce of difference wrt recruiting.

nike pays well, but not like adidas does for their top brands. fsu and alabama get about 9m/year combined. there are plenty of reasons to complain about miami, but if the rumored figures of 8 million+ annually are true, this is not one of the reasons.

How do they plan on making us 80s style uniforms while simultaneously planning to make us their Oregon? Those two statements don't jive. Bull**** detector is ringing loudly.

Oregon wears their traditional uniforms and will wear a special Uniform for big games

Hard to argue against that kind of money coming in. That said, money in the hands of idiots won't do us any good. James is horrendous and Golden is even worse, if humanly possible. Pony up and get a real staff and build a long term foundation here. Not this chicken **** operation we have going on.

I mean he did write that the 'base' uniform is going to be modeled after the 80's uni's. Is it not possible to have a base uniform then other uniforms that are more like Oregon's style?

I have no idea how anyone can defend Blake James.

Fire Golden.....
It wasn't in here yet, so.... It's done,

I like what I here about the "80s" uniforms!! Can we leave the dam helmet alone tho, it's the best look in CFB, Smoke, orange, green, gold, not at all Miami! Just my opinion
