Couple things on Adidas deal

LOLOL at Miami's logic:

Nike starts de-emphasizing UM b/c we are god awful.

Instead of improving their position with Nike, the #1 brand on earth by a mile, by taking the football program seriously, they run to some half rate company that will make us a fake Oregon.

School is run by absolute retards.

Anyone can take our classic look and refresh it. Only Adidas can use modern "technology" to make something look worse. At least Nike can take creative liberties and come up with a decent product. Why don't you post the fist unis from Adidas that look like pure trash? Nike was the originator with this branding. I'm sure had the contract been up this season we would have gotten a better deal. Sad how it went down.

We signed with Nike years after this classic look

Nike rolled with the classic look until 2000, with some minor adjustments(The EJ shadow numbers were basically the classic look, but with new numbers, and an alternate green jersey). From that point, it was one good template, and three awful ones that were shared with pretty much every other Nike school.

Nike was the originator with program/university branding in their partnership with []_[]s. I know the look predated Nike to Russell. My greater point is, Nike represents innovation as a brand just like Miami, and Adidas lacks creativity or an understanding of our program.

Sometimes, you don't need to reinvent the **** wheel. When you have an iconic look, sometimes it doesn't hurt to stick with it. Never mind the fact that we are talking about 3-4x the amount of money, merch and marketing support. It's stupid as **** to stick with a company that refuses to invest in you, but invests a ton into a school like Tennessee, that has been mediocre for even longer, and doesn't bring any urban eyeballs into the mix. Nike tried to ***** Miami, and Miami wouldn't spread her legs like an old ***** and take it. Good for them. That swoosh is a logo, period. Miami shouldn't have allowed Nike to hose them for all those years, but hey. Things happen.

Nike wasn't interested in paying ANYONE, the only thing that forced their hand was schools like Miami and Notre Dame negotiating with everyone, allowing other companies to step up. Remember, Nike is still paying schools like Alabama, Clemson and others peanuts compared to what they could get on the open market. Those schools can afford to be undervalued in that sphere, they make that money back on parking revenue, Miami doesn't and has to look for revenue sources. Yes, Nike threw a ton of money at Michigan and Tennessee, but those were moves designed to take momentum away from Adidas, which it failed to do. Adidas, which at the time of the Miami deal was falling behind Nike and UA is now a firm second, and have become the youth oriented brand Nike once was.

I can't help but laugh at all the brand marks that think that Nike provides some kind of cache. Coach L is recruiting better than any other Miami coach ever has, and he's doing it with Adidas. Even when Miami was struggling on the field, Adidas stepped up and provided the marketing support that the school needed. They bet on Miami, and it's about to pay off.

By the way, the last three Miami uniform templates Nike provided was PURE GARBAGE. The brastraps, eye brow, and whatever the last set were all looked like an intern crapped the bed. If it's so easy to recreate the classic look, why didn't Nike do it, and go from there? Miami never had a unique look while with Nike, we were given the same template as other schools. Our last template was shared with FSU, the only thing that changed was the colors. Never mind the fact that Nike was trying to force Miami's hand by giving them the new set in a contract year.

Your recruiting diatribe is strawman, because I never suggested anything of the sort..

I liked the last Nike uniforms. Sure, the White and orange jerseys should have been solid--minus the straps, but the all green and the smoke were tight. The helmets were pretty cool, too. Nike redesigned an ibis logo and I thought they did a great job. Pure garbage is what Adidas put out year 1. Adidas put barbwire and feathers all over the uni, and the current retro look is a result of Mark Richt, plain and simple.

Adidas did at least 3 uniforms year one that pure garbage would have been an upgrade for. Any one of the last 3 Miami templates were better than the 3 adidas year one looks and you give them too much credit. I don't disagree about the financials of the move and Nike's lame behavior, but it belies the fact that Adidas without strong university(Richt) interdiction put out something worse than "PURE GARBAGE."

It was a business decision. Never personal, so you and everyone else should come all out your feelings.
"Things happen", yes, but to me it's a shame it had to go that route considering the ground our brands broke together and what they both represent to American pop-culture.

I never said []_[]s should bend over for the swoosh and quite frankly I applaud Blake for doing what needed to
be done considering our frugal approach to football, but i'm not gonna say Adidas is a better company when they
can barely do retro without that tacky barbwire "technology".

It looks like trash, and one thing I can say about Nike is they generally figure out how to make "technology" stylish and don't do trashy looks. They take chances and look good.

It's what they do...and I respect that.

I never said "look". I was referring to "branding" a collegiate athletic program.

Reminds me of when all the saps praised Donna for getting us into the ACC.

Guaranteed money regardless of performance has been the death of this program. Socialist handouts destroy the necessity of putting a good product out. Adidas is paying is gobs of guaranteed money for 12 years. So for 12 years, we don't have to be good and we still get free money.

This deal is another in the long line of finding ways to fund athletics without having to field a good football team. The nerds strike again.

This

Sapp said this n got blasted

He kept it 100 I knew ole boy wasn't lying

Nailed it

Lots of silly people trashing adidas because they prefer the swoosh. Ridiculous.

Let's be honest, Nike came in with a trend-setting deal originally, but when it comes to the uniform, we already had a classic look due to our own creation (helmet) or prior uniform companies (Russell with the classic 1980s uniforms).

People tend to forget...

--Nike struggled to get the right shades of orange and green
--The redesigned "Ibis" (or "clam") was horrible, and was done only so Nike could cut its royalty payments to John "Sebastian" Routh, who drew the most popular version of Sebastian (corncob pipe) that we know and love
--While Nike came up with a couple of great designs, they also had some horrendous misfires, and they kept those misfires for years before making changes
--Nike came NOWHERE CLOSE to the $$$ offer that adidas made, ignoring our groundbreaking legacy together to chase other programs with lesser history

And, yes, adidas has made some mistakes, but they are quick to acknowledge and make changes, something Nike would never do.

I would like to see adidas produce an authentic jersey with sewn-on numbers instead of silk-screened numbers, and it would be nice to see what they might do with throwbacks, if produced at a similar high-quality.

How you gonna say Nike treated us some type of way when the []_[] didn't treat their program with respect? For decades... Nobody will respect you if you don't respect yourself; you look inward first.

This is the essence of my critique. Nike never sacrifices aesthetic for "technology" or tacky promotion of brand.
Adidas shamelessly puts their logo in the middle of the jersey, over the university name and logo. Ridiculous, and
I'm not too much of a homer to say it. I respect Nike for their creativity and brand ingenuity despite the business part of it.

Nike put the jordan logo on the side of the UNC helmet last week. I would be ****ed if anybody replaced the U with a basketball player, no matter how famous. Everybody company puts their logo over the school idenity, Nike especially.

LOL - I didn't realize Mahoney-Pearson was one of those Nike fanboy lemmings.

Hey, Nike dude, Adidas offered us a better deal, i.e., more fūcking money. It's business. As long as they provide the equipment needed, in the quantities needed, and the checks clear, the right choice was made. You must not be a business major - money talks, bullshīt walks, and Nike's treatment of us, including not negotiating was pure bullshīt.

I'd say "go Nike, Nike for life", because that's what you Nike zombies like, but nah, FŪCK NIKE

This is an underrated post by Mahoney-Pearson and it needs to be given merit. Nike didn't leave us high and dry, we didn't invest in ourselves. Retaining Golden after the 6-7 season left a bad taste in every single fan's mouth, including Nike. At the end of the day, it was a business decision. Just like it was a business decision for us to stop attending games in our disgust w the way the program was going. If Golden was fired and we showed the balls we've now shown by hiring Richt, guaranteed Nike would've re-upped. Instead we kept the guy who went 11-14 over a 1 1/2 yr span. And I see you Mahoney w your Smoking Aces Avatar.

I would like the same thing. I'm very pro Nike, but Adidas have been a good partner for us, thus far. When we complained about the stencil design of the names, they changed it. Richt told them to go w a more a classic look, they listened. KU said the same thing about Adidas which is y they re-upped w them. Michigan didn't get that same love from Adidas about 5 yrs into their deal. But so far, it's been a great relationship. Now, if we can just get those Yeezy cleats. Lol.
