Couple of Practice 1 notes

The interviews are much different this year. You could always tell the kids were being told what to say in years past. They seem to be real interviews with real straight forward answers. I like the mentality so far.

I give credit to dallas crawford, watch the interview, he is a team player but he also says wherever he is playing he is looking to start, not just fill a role.......

Impossible that D'Mauri might be good. Thought the rule was that if you don't do anything by the time you're 19 you're a JAG...

Some people don't understand it takes a few guys a while to get up to par and then they florish... When Miami use to be good guys waited their turn... Well it maybe D. Jone's turn this year...

Look at Perryman jeez

He looks fat.

Core strength. Guy looks like his core muscles are bigger than most people's lats.

It's that time of year again where we are all reminded just how bad Susan Miller is at her job.

Yeah, she's pretty bad.

To Ryan Williams, "what are you good at?"

Surprised he didn't slap her in the face with his ****. Then again he might not want any of her ugliness rubbing off on his junk.

jelani is only serious about gelato
Today was the first day of practice and I got to see a lot of what was going on before and during practice. Here are a couple notes I made:

-Owens back in green
Doesn't mean he isn't as good as we all think he will be, but shows that he has a ways to go until we should expect him getting serious burn. I was more impressed today with Young than Owens. Young has a superb confidence about him when he walks around the field. Looks like he belongs there.

-Didn't see Jenkins, probably in red shirt
-Carter in black
Not quite sure why, but Jenkins wasn't practicing. This gave Carter all the reps with the ones. Tolson and Crawford were the notable twos. Tolson looks good actually, could see some time this year

-Jelani still sucks
I don't know where to start with this kid.. Never met him in person, but from practice today all I could gather is that this man is just flat-out lazy. Went through the motions with every drill, forced the DL to do up-downs on more than one occassion due to lack of effort/speed. Not expecting much from him this year given the character and work ethic issues apparent today.

-D'Mauri Jones / Rashawn Scott looked good
Didn't get to watch much of the offense because I film defense, but D'Mauri is looking really good. Caught a lot of balls, saw him working in the both twos and ones. Could be both Jones' and Scott's year to get good burn on the outside opposite Dorsett.

worked out okay for bama. it's about having the right personnel. DP is a 4-3 linebacker. playing overweight in a 3-4 losing his athletic ability. a bigger bother is used in a true 3-4 where playing at 240 lbs is more natural
Prime example of why being a hybrid front in college is dumb:

On first and second down you are asking DP to be a powerful two gap ILB with the size and strength to play guards head on, shed and make a play. To do this he MUST be over 240.

Then on third down or against option teams you are asking him, now as a slower bigger guy, to be a sideline to sideline player, where he is now too slow to be effective. It's mind bogglingly stupid.

I just don't get it.

Golden can't be that dumb.
