When talking about the greats period, let alone safeties, at The U it starts with this man right here, Bennie was a beast, game changer both versus the run and the pass. Hands down, for me, the best all around safety at UM

As far as best safety to come through here, he is definitely in the top 3 and one can argue top 2, imo. He had olympic level speed (IIRc he almost qualified for the olympic trials in the 400m as a high schooler), great size (210-215) and great range as a FS.

I thought Benton was going to be so good after that Memphis game.

Yup, he balled out that day, and had a good season and then.....I remember in the offseason the hype for him, German and Rolle. They were calling themselves the 7-8-9 guys. And then none played in 1997, which paved the way for Wayne, Moss and King
