Could Anthony Campbell return?

you forgot armondo blount who probably needs another year, not sure Campbell wants to come back unless he just believes we're going to have a great year and wants to be a part of it, otherwise he's way down the list
Sorry, but Blount needs to play this year or he is as good as gone. Him,
Scott, Lightfoot. Just get them in there and let them ball

Blount will be a base end in this defense. Bain, Mesidor, Blount look like the best fits in this scheme. There is a Jack (Stand Up end). Not sure who will be the front runners at that position. Maybe one of these guys plays there on early downs and kicks inside on passing ones. I think Bain is best lined up in a 4i Tight front. That's where he seemed best when we went to a 3-3 D his freshman year. He needs to get his explosion back that we saw in 23 because last year he did not play well.

Do you watch this team? Why are you asking if he played. The kid is going to be a great player. He might be the youngest player on the team.
Yes, I do watch the team, and I don’t remember his name being mentioned once during a game. Not even for a penalty.

He's "going to be a great player"? That's awesome. But again, my point was, people were touting him as an instant impact, generational talent, man-child. That obviously didn't turn out to be the case. What happened?

No they weren't (at least the vast majority). He came in a year early, should have been in HS this past season. Most opinions were that he would need time to mature.

Not sure who ever said kid would start day 1. Why do people make up stories.

Yeah, you're right. Everybody thought he would need 2 years just to see the field. Just look at all these statements downplaying expectations:

"The five-star prospect is ranked as the #5 overall recruit in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Additionally, he holds the title of the #1 player in Florida and the #2 defensive lineman in the nation ... Listed at 6-3, 250 pounds, Blount is a nightmare for offensive lines and quarterbacks alike."

"Gonna be the best defensive player nationally in 2025 regardless of position! Massive commit! Let’s keep it rolling!"

"This is a game changer mane top defensive player in the nation for 2025, and everyone is gonna want to play with him too"

"Program changing type player.
Miami landed a handful last year with Bain and Samson/Francis."

"Armondo Blount is a 5-Star prospect according to every recruiting service known to man ... 'He's a different level type of kid,' Blustein said. 'He's been the number one player in the class of 2025 for the last two years.' There's been some chatter about Blount potentially re-classifying from the class of 2025 into the 2024 class. Blustein assures me that Armondo is physically and mentally mature enough to do just that. 'No doubt,' Blustein said. 'He's been at the varsity level (at big programs) now for four years.'"

"'He's nothing short of a certified freak,' 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna said. 'He has clocked a sub 4.8-second time in the 40-yard dash and had a 30-inch vertical jump. That would put him in elite company if he were currently listed on an NFL roster. Not too shabby for a 16-year old!'"

He would have been a 5 star, number 5 overall player in the 2025 class. He reclassified to the 2024 class and fell to a high four star recruit. True freshman defensive linemen usually don’t play a lot. Especially 17 year old true freshmen defensive linemen. Now maybe you thought he was going to be some immediate impact guy because some fan was hyping him up but fans literally hype up every freshman and they always think the incoming guy is better than the guy we already have because most don’t know any better.

I’m usually not crazy about a lineman reclassifying because 18 year olds are a rarely able to play on FBS lines let alone 17 year olds. But Miami essentially got a free redshirt year for him. He was able to get into much better shape in a college strength program than he would have gotten had he stayed for his senior year of high school. He should definitely be in the mix at DE this year.

Some fan? The guy's commitment generated a 100-page thread of celebratory memes and chest thumping. I could've kept going with the quotes but thought I made my point with six... two of which are from well-established talent evaluators.

I don't think anything, cause I don't know ****. I just take note of what others say. Go back and see for yourself. The general tone was that this kid was a can't miss, immediate impact talent... not some two-year project. I'm not trying to call anyone out. I'm just simply curious as to what changed and why.

You keep ignoring the fact that he skipped a year. And you’re posting reviews of him as a 2025 prospect. That’s huge for a DL where physical maturity is very important.
