Corn Elder

Larry, I've seen him play 5x in 2 years. Against really good talent. He's the real deal. He's just lacking size. Don't knock the State of Tennessee's talent

I hope you are correct but history says Larry brings a good POV to the table. Kid looks electric though no doubt.
Larry would be incorrect on this one. No disrespect but Corn is very good! Another one for 2014 we aren't recruiting very hard right now is Rashaan Gaulden (S) from Independence HS here in TN. Originally from Miami and is a Deon Bush clone!

I was expecting Corn to play a lot until Dallas started emerging as a legitimate #2, but now that we have Dallas as our new Damien Berry, I don't see us as desperate to field Elder. Still, as long as he's conditioned and knows his playbook, I expect Corn will be too good to redshirt. Mr Football twice and and Mr Basketball finalist 3 times in Tennessee. He's been going up against bigger kids his whole HS career, so I don't think his size will be a huge issue, provided they get him in space.

Don't forget there was mention from the staff, Brown I think it was, about the possibility of Corn playing corner. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's used in the slot. Duke and Crawford already give us a shifty smaller back, and we're missing a guy like corn in the slot. We have plenty of prototypical X and Z guys but do we really have a guy like that at Y?

This kid redshirts either way. My main man Dallas is finally stepping up to the plate so why waste a year..Especially since people are saying EC will be back. No need to waste a year when we will need him to compliment Sony and Yearby when they get here. He will be a redshirt sophomore by the time we unleash them full time.

No player will ever be better than they are in the days between when they sign and when they report. At least on the internet.

Hope you're right on Crawford. At this point he is just the Thompkins Award Winner but hopefully it transitions.

Larry's a smart dude, but his post is nothing more than guesswork based off past Tennessee RBs. There's no analysis of Corn or what Corn actually brings to the table.

Crawford looks like the goods in the carries he got to me. He is a chain mover. He reminds me, in a forbidden cross-racial comparison, of Danny woodhead

My guess is that IF Corn Elder plays this year its only because of his skillz as a kick returner.

As for the #2 RB spot, please do not leave Edwardo Clements out of the discussion. Word from the staff is that he will be cleared for full contact by the start of summer. I fully expect Clements to be the #2 or 2A running back by the UF game.

Corn has 6 state championship rings b/w football and basketball. He's a winner. He'll bring that mentality to Miami with him and he will do great.

He reminds me of another Tennessee back.....Graig Cooper. FWIW, Urban Meyer really wanted Corn at OSU..

I'm holding off on crowning the Corncob...I'm hesitant on giving a crown to a Tennessee running back. The studs are few and far between and even the studs aren't that good. So, I've got my reservation...but willing to be surprised. He looks good on tape...ridiculous, actually...but...its Tennessee.

You're viewing him as a RB? I view him as a utility guy. My hope is that, 3-4 years from now, we compare his HS tape to Tavon Austin's. Maybe he won't ever become as good as Austin, but I'm thinking in terms of that role.

but then again....

...we do need someone to backfill Kendall Thompkins spot. Corn Elder seems that he would be perfect in that role, no??? :newman:
