I've seen a lot of post about how most are holding out hope that Gus Edwards can contribute early and I agree because we need a quality big back behind Duke. I have not seen anyone bring up Corn Elder though. I actually think he will have a huge impact this season and make some big plays out of the backfield. I think he's the forgotten man in the class, but not for long.

I think Elder may be a utility player this season. Reports have stated he can catch well, run well, and that he's very fast. If that's true I expect him to play in the slot, at RB and on KR, like our own personal Darren Sproles.

He will redshirt... Book it

I think his playing time depends on Crawford. If Crawford is playing well out of the slot and in the backfield, I think Elder redshirts. I then think he starts practicing with the basketball team around the winter and misses spring ball.

I think he gets redshirted, Duke, Crawford, Dillard, Clements all ahead of him at the moment, and he's coming in with Edwards

There are not enough balls to go around. What the original poster said could have been said for Dallas last year. He rarely saw the field.

I think his playing time will depend on how he competes in practice, and injuries, (hopefully none) but that's just a WAG.

is Darren Sproles a fair comparison? is Corn 5'2"?

I was thinking of great utility players and Darren popped in my mind. I don't like to mention Gators. So I didn't use THAT guy for an example....

I concur with the others on the board Elder will most likely rock a shirt this season. We have a lot of backs looking to contribute. I want to see who steps up in the spring game with Duke most likely not getting more than 15 touches.

I'm holding off on crowning the Corncob...I'm hesitant on giving a crown to a Tennessee running back. The studs are few and far between and even the studs aren't that good. So, I've got my reservation...but willing to be surprised. He looks good on tape...ridiculous, actually...but...its Tennessee.

I am being open minded. If Elder comes in and gives some big plays great, if he red shirts great. Its a win win either way.

You may see a small package with Corn, Duke, Malcolm & Dallas. Remember the cluster packages Fisch like to run on the WR screen? Something similar but with possibly some trickery. We can keep defenses honest just based on the sheer amount of weapons we can put on the field at any given moment.

Then your red zone packages with guys like R Scott, Hurns, Sandland, Walford. I know I left Dorsett out along with a few others but the point here is the amount of weapons we have can dictate mismatches no matter what a defense is trying to do. Good stuff

Tavon Austin comes to mind.

Agreed that is a good comparison to Corn. I think because he was a late signee people dont realize he was a top 300 player and arguably the top athlete out of Virginia. Could see him out of the backfield, in a wildcat/option or in the slot dude is a stud.

Larry, I've seen him play 5x in 2 years. Against really good talent. He's the real deal. He's just lacking size. Don't knock the State of Tennessee's talent

I hope you are correct but history says Larry brings a good POV to the table. Kid looks electric though no doubt.
