Corey Flagg embracing change

I love Shaq. And I'd acecpt Q > K. But >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ? Nah. You're forgetting how many times Shaq ran into the wrong lane gap into a blocking guard. And how many times was he asked to cover more than the box? Never as far as I can recall. Kiko was **** good in run support. Just outmatched when asked to cover.
I also have Quartermann > Kiko in run support as well.

If Kiko hadn't been asked to cover more than his box, he would have looked roughly as good as Shaq. Not a world beater. But more than adequate. I'm honestly worried about replacing him. Popo has flashed but hasn't proven he's ready yet.
This to the T. Teams consistently found ways to exploit our linebackers by outscheming and using motion to get the match up they wanted. Francisco has no business covering #2 or any back on the wheel, but teams constantly schemed that up vs us. Coaching and alignment were horrible all season long on the defensive side.

I know that we were suspect at DB, but I always wondered why we didn’t use more nickel and dime packages on passing downs. As a matter of fact, I am not sure if we had a dime package so our LBs got consistently schemed into covering RBs, TEs and slot WRs.

Flagg was never the reason we were bad. And would never have been the reason we were good.

He was solid and a Cane. That should be good enough for the fan base.

Insert "Kiko" and you have the same result. The times he was beaten in pass coverage were entirely on the safeties. You can't expect a MLB to cover 30+ yards downfield. It was pure stupidity..

That’s not accurate and was probably one of the reasons Guidry was fired. Teams were able to scheme up 1 on 1 isolation routes where he had no help at all. This was one of the inexplicably stubborn parts of our scheme. I assume the initial thought was our DL would get home before it would matter, but when they didn’t he was usually on an island covering a wheel route. See the FSU game. If they had a QB who could complete a forward pass they’d have had 2 TDs.

I didn't feel qualified to diagnose the plays and determine the relevant scheme. I just saw him with zero coverage. So if you're telling me it's Guidry's fault as opposed to Meesh's fault, I'm happy to buy into that. My point is it wasn't Kiko's fault. He was more than adequate as a box MLB including run and pass coverage within his zone.
