Cook Set for American Heritage

Saw American Heritage play today and they are not in the class of Central. It will be a beat down. We won't be able to sign every top RB the SoM has. If we ink one, chances are the other will ink elsewhere so that he may be more prominently featured. Cook clearly has that chance with the gaytors and I'm sure that's what they have sold him on. With Yearby we have a more natural RB as good as any- including Cook. Powell's commitment gives us a versatile and dynamic back that will cause problems for defenses. Don't forget we signed Edwards last year and The Duke has at least two season remaining. What we want is for the gaytors and Noles to get only what we leave on our plates. We don't want them feasting in SoFl but if they get chicken box we OK with that.

Cant blame the kid for wanting to go somewhere where he will be the featured back. He knows he can run circles around Kelvin Taylor. He will be the FT starter by his SOPH year. At UM he would be splitting carries his entire time year. I know it will cut back on the mileage once the NFL comes calling but HS kids dont think about that stuff. Just ask Cendric Benson. He got ran into the ground in HS and college. Had a solid NFL career but it could have been better. Eddie George too.

Long of the short, gonna miss this guy. Cook is the truth beyond the truth. Esp if he is 210. But I am more then happy with Yearby.

Sony Michel is South Florida's most overhyped RB in years. He hasnt produced anything since his 8th grade year. I watched him play Saturday and wasnt impressed. He didnt even look like the best RB on his team. I dont except him to do anything against Central.. Now that haitian #5 at AH is the truth.. we should be recruiting him. Just my opinion...Not here to argue my point.

Agreed. But we should all thank god the University of Miami is located in Dade Co. because we got Duke and (presumably) Joseph Yearby. Again, I agree though. You can't miss on all 4 of those guys in your back yard.

How does the kid from BTW compare to Collins, Michel and Cook? (I don't put Scarlett in their class based upon some feedback from someone I trust)

This is how I feel. Especially with the RB drought we had prior to this recent era. I dont really see an excuse for missing on soo much talent. Our depth chart shouldnt be scaring anybody away. Cot Dam man

RB Jordan Scarlett, WR Devante Phillips, TE Devonaire Clarington, QB Torrance Gibson, CB Tyrek Cole, S Kendrell McFadden, ATH Shawn Burgess-Becker, WR Devante Peete, S Tarvarus McFadden, S Jaquan Johnson, S Calvin Brewton, WR Shaq Wilson, ATH Tim Irvin, WR Jovon Durante, ATH Jordan Cronkrite, CB Rashad Causey.

It seems to be mad secondary recruits next year. Who do you expect Miami to land from that group?

Kinda like DGriffins situation. Schools didnt think he would make the grade. Butch took a shot and won BIG!! SNAKE EYES! lol.

Gore wouldnt even be here if Butch had not left and he wasnt as highly recruited as Sony or Cook. I dont even think he was a 4 star. If he was it was barely. And he would be an Ole Miss/SEC legend if it werent for Coker. He and Roscoe had there bags packed and ready for Klan country. Coker swooped in and offered Roscoe. Gore came with him and the rest is UM history. Portis was not highly rated at all. **** Najeh Davenport was probably more highly rated out of HS then all of them. Anderson and Foreman were before the days of the star system but they were not on the level of Bo Jackson, Marcus Dupree or Hershel Walker recruting wise.

My point is that we can development guys like Yearby and Powell into the greats because they have the skill set. We need to bring back the days of hard work and dedication. Thats what made us great. No doubt in my mind that Duke and Yearby will be great UM backs. I would love to have Cook and Sony too but this program wasnt built on 5 stars. It was built on guys who wanted to be here and SUPPLEMENTED with 5 stars later on. JMO.

Good post. Let's not forget that Butch sat EJ behind the immortal Dyral McMillan for a while, when it was plain as day that EJ was special in his first scrimmage at UM. Let's also keep in mind that Cleveland Gary, Leonard Conley and Stephen McGuire were the backs on some of the best teams in UM history. We will be fine with the RBs we have in the pipeline.

was going to post something similar, but just some corrections. Gore staying had more to do with his mom's health and he was highly recruited. As far as Willis it wasn't the all out brawl for him because he tore his ACL as a SR so some schools weren't pushing as hard as they once had.

Regardless people keep over valuing and under valuing the talent down here as if it's some giant gaps between them. FL and more importantly SFL isn't considered the recruiting hotbed it is because of the top guys. Actually if it was just about the top guys you could argue places like GA, VA, LA, OH are just as good as FL. However the difference between the perceived top guys and the next level guys isn't that far off. that's why our area is such a recruiting haven and so many so called "under the radar kids" go off and become stars.

Bro.. Sony isnt what we thought he was.. He is an overhyped 5 star RB...Dont get me wrong he is no scrub, but at times he looks like a 3 star. That just goes to show you what going to summer camps and building that buzz early can do for any H.S recruit. Just look at his JR highlight tape. He hasnt done anything since his 8th grade year.. I thought Sony was the next coming of Duke, until i watched a complete game against high level competition..

I do agree, Alex Collins last year was a big lost..But we will be okay if we lose Jordan Scarlett, and Sony Michel.

DALVIN COOK & ERMON LANE is a must get! I would be disappointed if Florida pays them more than we can offer. That SEC money is just too much for these H.S kids.

Edge and Gore were definitely hyped, at least locally. Everybody knew they were studs if they got their grades straight. Yearby and Powell are great football players, but they don't have that premium combination of size and ability that the other guys have. We are accustomed to NFL stars, complemented by quality players like Powell and Yearby.
