Congrats UM signee Gabe Terry...

If he wrestled at 195 he is probably easily 210. I cut 17 pounds in 2 and a half days once and I was cutting to 135 at that time. In GA there are rules around hydration so you can't cut as much now. Our 215 and 275 (hwt) were both really good football players. It can be a difficult transition from football to wrestling especially if your team goes deep. Our 275 was 44 - 0 heading into State. He would have likely faced Kendrick Goldsten(sp)(NFL) in the finals had he not got hurt. 189 and up was usually loaded with big time football talent.

Wrestling and football is a tough combo for a high school kid. Even at heavier weights, diet and training have to be so strict when you are a top level wrestler. Its tough to turn around and gain weight and train differently for football and still keep that top level athletically.

This kid just seems to be one **** of an athlete and I am really excited to see how he progresses.

Wasn't Ray Lewis an all state wrestler? I think Terry will be a beast. Our LB core has a lot of promise for the future!

Ray wrestled in the same weight class, too. It says that Terry wrestles 195 pounds (which wasn't a class in my day) but I know he was 189 last year (same as Ray)

Yup. And Terry will be 210 easily by this summer. He'll be 205 by tomorrow morning.

Also, the official weight class is the weight the class starts out at at the beginning of the season. I know even back when I wrestled, the limit would go up like a pound a month during the season, so 138 became 141 and so on.

If he weighed in this morning I have no doubt he is already at 205 and was probably at that during his match.

Probably. Rehydration takes time. You **** out most of the water you take in as your muscles don't absorb it quickly. Not telling you aynthing you don't know I realize. He'd easily put on 8 lbs min if he made weight in the morning, but as I know from experience, when you cut 10+ lbs of water, you sweat it back off and tire pretty effin quickly for physiological reasons.

Very true but I bet a couple of the pounds were likely him not eating dinner last night nor breakfast this morning before weighing in. I bet he took a massive **** about 4 hours after weighing in.

The National High School Association just effed up all the weight classes this year. It is also a National Federation rule for weight certification to take a hydration test before certifying you for a specific weight. There are specific weight loss guidelines that are set up but we don't follow them in Montana. For that matter we didn't even follow the national weight changes. I would assume that Florida has the hydration test because it appears they went with the new weight classes.

I wrestled 98, 112, 135 and 140 in the mid-late 90's.

Andrew you are right on with weigh Ins. No doubts at all kid is 205 right now. Worst case scenario for me is he cant add more weight and he's a ST specialist. But I doubt weight will be issue!

The only hydration test that is required in Florida is to get weight certified at the beginning of the year. Terry looked great in the finals and threw up the U after he won his championship.

So he likely didn't cut as much weight as might have been cut in the past.

Your right. He probably walks around at 210. I would like to see him redshirt but no matter what once he gets in and starts eating 3 big meals a day and working out he could be 225 in no time.

Ray lewis added a ton of weight once he stopped wrestling.

i wrestled in hs and reffed while i was in college and shortly after

the rules are different now, certifications at the beginning of the year limiting how low you can drop.

I dont know about Florida but I know in NY a kid cant drop more than 2 weight classes in a season. Say a kid is certified at 103 but wrestles at 119 and 112, in NY even though hes certified at 103 he would have to drop that far and the state says it is too much

looking at terrys pick i dont think he cut much, probably put on 5 or 10 but will lose some in 2-days
