Congrats UM signee Gabe Terry...

Redshirt has become this taboo term these days.

It used to just mean you had depth.

@larrybluestein: "UM fans will love Gabe Terry from PB Central. He is freakishly strong and confident on the wrestling mat."

The runner up in Nebraska is a bigger accomplishment. Congrats to him, he is a beast.

Looks like he probably went a day without eating or drinking anything to get to 195. Do they have hydration test in Florida wrestling?

Wrestling and football is a tough combo for a high school kid. Even at heavier weights, diet and training have to be so strict when you are a top level wrestler. Its tough to turn around and gain weight and train differently for football and still keep that top level athletically.

This kid just seems to be one **** of an athlete and I am really excited to see how he progresses.

Wasn't Ray Lewis an all state wrestler? I think Terry will be a beast. Our LB core has a lot of promise for the future!

Ray wrestled in the same weight class, too. It says that Terry wrestles 195 pounds (which wasn't a class in my day) but I know he was 189 last year (same as Ray)

Yup. And Terry will be 210 easily by this summer. He'll be 205 by tomorrow morning.

Also, the official weight class is the weight the class starts out at at the beginning of the season. I know even back when I wrestled, the limit would go up like a pound a month during the season, so 138 became 141 and so on.

Hydration test? I would never have made weight if id had to take one of those.

Me either but I hear they do it in GA now. With the exception of my senior season I cut no less than 20 pounds.

Yeah, I would never have made weight without a rubber suit. Hydration test? The losers are the kids who want to drink on weekends.

From what I hear you have to certify at weight at the beginning of the season by taking a **** tet. Also are weight classes different in Florida.

We had

103, 112 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 275. You were given an extra 3 pounds after a certain date.

I wrestled, 130, 135, 145, 171

I'm not even sure I recall the classes we had. But 101, 108, 115, 123, 129, 135, 141, 148, 158, 170, 189, 220 and HWT were what I recall.

I wrestled 130, 135, 141, 148 in HS and 141, 148 and 158 in college.
