MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

Not being argumentative, but why r we fully focused on The B1G? Imho, the only conference that makes sense from a perception, regional, attendance, recruiting standpoint is the SEC. I’m really not sure when this thread became all B1G (I’m lying, yeah I do), but this where this myopic view of our fan base keeps distorting big picture.
I think the overwhelming consensus from reports and insiders (take that for what it's worth) is that the SEC doesn't/wouldn't want us but the BIG should/would. At least that's what I've concluded from my time reading this thread.

Idk if you are new here, but focusing on one option and only pursuing that option is pretty on brand.

I think the AAU accreditation put a jet fuel back pack on this, but it would behoove us to vet all options.

The SEC will likely expand in southern states that they are not currently in. UNC UVA

Thanks. My first duty station was in Germany, as an intel analyst working with RF-4C’s.
Some here probably remember me as Foxbat as I’ve been on Cane boards since the first year of Grassy. Took 5-6 years off of posting after I shut down my own Canes site (Canesmutiny) after a 10 year run.
Welcome back friend.

Thank you for your service....

...and you are absolutely correct! That academic classification definitely has been the tip of the spear for this BIG conversation. TBH I'd love being in the SEC as a southerner now living back in the south kicking azzz. A lot would have to happen for that to occur though...just my opinion.

From a "military perspective" assuming Miami remains relevant...

- SEC would be foolish to allow B1G to establish beachhead on their Southern Flank
- B1G would be foolish not to continue to encircle SEC by taking Miami + Georgia Tech and establishing a strong position on SEC's Southwestern (e.g. Texas) flank
Both B1G/SEC would be foolish not to establish strongholds in mid-Atlantic markets (e.g. North Carolina/Virgina)

More pressure on B1G expansion than SEC due to demo growth is South.

Assuming Empy's Super Conference doesn't happen*:

- If I'm B1G Commish, I'm taking UNC + somebody in Virginia + Miami + Georgia Tech + poach aTm/SMU/TCU
- If I'm SEC Commish, I'm taking UNC + somebody in Virginia + Miami + poach someone in Southwest US

If you aren't sitting at the table, you are on the menu.

If I'm BXII + ACC, I'm merging yesterday and putting Yormark in charge.

*of course it will happen

I’m just very uncomfortable being in a conference where the next closest program is 1000 miles away and run by OSU and Michigan

Do not see UM ever setting an invite to the SEC - just not a fit - not a major state university, lack of a stadium, small private university. Has always been viewed as a FIT for the B10.

I can definitely see the SEC taking FSU and with their BB interest - UNC / UVA.

Sankey on Miami:

With both UF and FSU in the fold it won't be hard for SEC leadership to justify passing on Miami: lukewarm fan support, rented stadium, hit n miss success last 20 years, renegade image, confirmed CIS rumors of flagship campus being relocated to Palm Beach County, blah, blah, blah

I think we'll end up in the B1G along with the leprechauns, Cal and Stanford

Good find @Tony4Canes

3, 2, 1 until the usual Wolverine slurpers arrive to tell us the guy did this on his own, Coach Harbaugh didn't know a thing, Michigan is a high-character program unlike Ohio State, etc, etc.

Man, **** the scumbag Wolverines

Do not see UM ever setting an invite to the SEC - just not a fit - not a major state university, lack of a stadium, small private university. Has always been viewed as a FIT for the B10.

So the SEC is not a fit, but the B1G is based upon that criteria u just listed? Lol

1. Out of the Top 25 largest stadiums in the country, 10 belong in the B1G including the top 3, & 11 belong in the $EC.

2. Vanderbilt has a student body of 13k, Miami has a student body of 19k

3. Vandy is not TN’s flagship school, that’s UTenn. Miss St is not MS’s flagship school, that’s Ole Miss. Texas A&M is not TX’s flagship school, that’s UT.

What I would like is honesty, not bull **** on this board. The reason y the notion is that The B1G is a better fit is b/c of the perceived upfront $$. It’s the same b.s argument in the Adidas thread, which is y I said this fanbase has myopic views that’s cannot see the big picture.

If the SEC wanted us, that would be the best spot. Geographically it makes the most sense. From a pure athletic standpoint it makes the most sense. From a recruiting standpoint it makes the most sense.

I literally can hear the excuses now if we went to the B1G: “The B1G hates us; they’re scheduling us to play Iowa in November in Iowa.” “Why are we traveling to Los Angeles then we have to travel to Maryland?? The team is jet lagged.”

You do know the SEC offered us and FSU years ago and ended up taking SC and Arkansas when both of us declined. Not to mention, Vandy is small and private.
UM also has one of the largest TV markets in the SEC traditional footprint.

Hilarious. The SEC would be outstanding for Miami in every aspect - recruiting, big games, and a huge benefit for travel. Does Sankey want Miami to have those advantages? Does Bama and UGA etc? Don’t see it ever happening. It would be outstanding if UNC and Miami went to the SEC with Clemson and FSU to the Big.
