Concerns for next year

What concerns do you have for next year's team? What will they have to overcome to be a great team?

Here's what I've got.

1. Will Coley be a solid OC? According to Golden, he will run the same offense we ran last year with the same terminology, so that is good for Morris and the other kids not to have to learn a whole new offense. How is he as a game day signal caller?

2. At RB, who will spell Duke? Will a big back emerge? Will it matter that much?

3. Will Flowers or Bunch take the next step next year? The OL could be fantastic if they do.

4. Will our WR's have the dropsies again this year? Especially Dorsett. Could be a huge playmaker if he overcomes this.

5. Will Eddie Johnson play next year, or will he get himself suspended?

6. Will McCord have progressed enough to be an every-down guy? If not, what does our 1st and 2nd down weakside end spot look like? Will pass rushing be a problem or did they do enough this offseason to fix it?

7. Bush has one safety spot locked down. Who is going to step up and take the other spot? Could be a weakness next year for us.

I think Jenkins has the other spot locked up. Came on strong during the end of the year.

Can Curtis Porter stay healthy and can Eddie Johnson stay out of trouble are my main 2 concerns.

Really concern with our QB coaching after Morris. Coley didnt show me much with the QBs at FSU. Concern at RB depth with big drop off after duke. DT.need folks to step up

FWIW, scouts were impressed with E.J. at the Senior Bowl and I actually saw a lot of improvement in him over the course of his career. It's not Coley's fault he sucks.

By far the most important thing is the health of Porter and Pierre. The drop off from those guys to the other DT's is greater than any other position besides QB.

My only concern is improvement in scoring D and total D. We ain't winning nothing if we continue to get gashed with big plays and not getting off the field on 3rd downs.

im interested (not so much concerned) at how the offense will look. I was really enjoying the hurry up tempo we implemented and the kids seem to enjoy running it as well. Hate to see that go to the wayside.

The best secondary in the world cannot cover their receivers forever. We had ZERO pass rush last year. We couldn't stop a decent running attack. What are the two most important aspects of a defense? 1) Stopping the run 2) Rushing the passer.

Our turnover situation has improved radically under Golden's team. Not many fumbles or interceptions. Richardson was a stickler for ball handling by the RBs. Hope this doesnt change.

he did a good job game planning for F$U but jimbo has no idea how to call plays

i think he will be fine and hope he doesnt try and get cute sometimes like fisch did

since clements is still hurt i expect dillard or edwards will step in to fill the mike james power back role and crawford will be the 3rd down back

bunch should be further ahead of flowers but im expecting both to play a big role next year

our OL could be the best in the conference

we have plenty of talent at WR to catch balls and make plays

5. Will Eddie Johnson play next year, or will he get himself suspended?
really talented but really stupid

i hope he makes it because he could be a great player but im not optimistic about his chances

6. Will McCord have progressed enough to be an every-down guy? If not, what does our 1st and 2nd down weakside end spot look like? Will pass rushing be a problem or did they do enough this offseason to fix it?
i think moving dye and perry back to DE means that mccord might RS next year

hes up to 235 from about 212, but if hes gonna settle at DE a RS year will help him alot

my guess is highsmith

without injuries it wont be a weakness

In no particular order:

All things Front 7
-Porter playing all year
-Eddie Johnson staying on the team
-Pierre taking the next step in his development
-LB's in pass coverage
-Pressure off the edge with somebody/anybody

There's probably more with this group that escapes me at the moment.

Coley as OC
What is his philosophy?
Can he be an effective play-caller?

Keeping Morris and Duke healthy
-Morris goes without saying
-With Duke, there was a thread a few months ago about how much we would miss Mike James. Since we couldn't keep Collins in the fold we don't have much there after him.

I'm concerned about Coley as a QB coach more than an OC. I think about the turnarounds Jacory and Stephen made under Fisch and I wouldn't be surprised to see some turnovers creep back into Stephen's game now that Jedd is gone.

I hope it doesn't happen obviously but it's not like FSU QBs were ever world beaters under Coley's tutelage.

coley was only the FSU QB coach for a couple of weeks after dameyune craig left for auburn
