I think most throw the word "elite" around too loosely, especially for our players.

An elite player is evident from the jump imo. Sure there are outliers, or kids who had traits and got good coaching, but that isnt always the case.

Would rather have the "elite" kid who has it all and just refine his technique. That's what the top 5 programs do.
I respect that. How would you quantify that though? Just use the rankings method? I wouldn't mind researching this so it would be cool to get different perspectives. I can tell you that Clemson won those rings without a team choc full of elite players. They got kids that did one or two things at a great to elite level and managed off that. They do however have elite coaching.

This is an elite-level post.

I dont think there is an exact or right way to do it unfortunately. Rankings definitely help and go with what I'd want to do, have my staff evaluate kids at camps, but it isnt the end-all-be-all. There's always going to be some who just cant afford these camps, cant find a ride, or doesn't want to participate and it will affect their ranking(s).

And you said the key words; elite coaching. Much easier to maintain pumping out All-Americans/draft picks when you have the best of the best.

Agree to disagree I guess. I judge a book by elite traits. theres a reason why players like the lineman from IMG last who neer played football was **** near elite because of traits. We can pick stars easy and say elite but it doesn't mean much to me. No one considered Garvin elite but he had traits. Bandy wasn't considered elite by most but his tape, aggressiveness awareness should have told us different. What I see is what I see and we disagree thats fine. But recruiting the the elite of the only would be a losing game for most schools since most schools wouldn't last if they only looked at stars. The best players aren't the ones with elite media coverage more times than not, its the ones that pass the eye test, measurement test, and IQ test. But do you.
Elite traits doesn't make someone an elite football player.... Not looking at stars. Youre the one talking about stars in this convo. DVD ran a a 4.28 at combine was he an elite corner in the NFL? No. You're wild if you think that OL from Australia is elite. Dude went to Minnesota and if he was elite every SEC school in would have been on him and he wouldn't have went to Minnesota

I agree with the star thing but But Rousseau film wasn't elite. He had elite traits which they believed they could be developed into a freak on the edge. As we're finding out so far so good.

If were talking about his film prior to his senior year, I agree. He just looked like a big WR without great speed.

But his senior film, when he played DE full-time, was outstanding and showed freakish potential. The only question after watching that was how fast he was going to be able to add weight. Recruiting sites just don't constantly evaluate kids, especially ones they first label as 3*

isnt it refreshing to FINALLY be able to say that?

Our brand is close to being back, not sure it will or won't happen, but I am sure that the way CMR is building the program from community/optimist to showing kids the way to being good people. It's great to be a Miami Hurricane

Brock is the biggest offender...that guy needs a thesaurus to come up with different synonyms...Lmao
If you ball against the top competition you elite.
Imo
2 elite dbs
2 elite receivers
2 elite tight ends
1 elite running back
1 elite dr
1 elite qb- people can say Daniels, Lawrence and fields were elite and others were not all they want but truth of the matter is that Williams outperformed Lawrence out at the opening and had just as good of a senior season as any other QB.

Right and I completely agree. His senior tape was outstanding, very good, **** of a player. All great things, but elite is on another level.

Im one of the bigger Jarren supporters out there, believe hes our next starter, and takes us to the playoffs... But so because a kid out performs someone in ONE camp makes them elite or better than someone? JT daniels is supposed to be 19 and he killed it during Army week. Lawrence resume speaks for itself, and it showed during Clemson spring. Fields is just all around special.

Not just that camp, look at the level of throws Williams made in his film , how well adapted he was in spring ball, his build and overall feel of the game. Imo the kid is special

I trust the coaches evaluation, stars not so much.

The coaches see the kids play WAY more than any recruiting analyst. I would trust a coaches evaluation before that of a recruiting guru every day of the week. That's not saying coaches don't misjudge players. They do, just way less than the recruiting services.

Considering there are 1000s of players at each positions each year too be in the top percentile is pretty elite if you ask me. Plus this sh*t isn’t an exact science, joe Jackson, ahmmon Richards, mike Pinckney, shaq quarterman didn’t have top 25”elite” ratings yet they were the best at their positions in their class as freshman. Those rankings don’t always tell the full story

Right and I agree I think hes a great football player. Would I be surprised if he develops and is better than all three of them? No. But coming out of high school he was VERY good. Second tier imo. Just those three guys were on another level.

Definitely will be watching this over the next few years, should be interesting
