youre crazy they are loaded with kids from richmond/perrine and its only just beginning, also they are not in 6A so they avoid the real dade county horses

Our idea of "loaded" must be different then. I sat there and watched them from field level versus Deerfield. They're not "loaded".
They have a few kids here and there but "loaded" is Deerfield, STA, Chaminade, etc.
Columbus doesn't have a bunch of P5 kids like the schools I mentioned.

Who are these kids you speak of?

Everyone pretty much gets into Columbus these days, last 2 incoming freshmen class were close to 500 boys. The school is no longer elite except for the Mas program. A Columbus education is pretty mediocre these days. On the Football side of things I agree that they underachieve. They truly have no real competition in Dade county from other private schools offering a better environment. Broward private schools are in a constant battle with each other. Coach Merritt and the rest of the Columbus program are lazy and arrogant. They expect boys to flock to them, they don’t put in the work. They also play in the easiest classification to win a title if you’re a “big school”. That Manderin team had 4 losses with 1 being to the 4a state champ Raines. Columbus wouldn’t make it out of South Florida in 7a or 6a. Columbus should be at the level or even more successful than St. Thomas has been the past 30 years.

I ask again who does Columbus compete against for kids?? Gulliver, Westminster, LaSalle, Pace and Belen???

Who does STA compete against?? University School, Heritage, Chaminade, Gibbons??

Not even close.

This is pretty accurate. Columbus has fell just short a few years in a row now. They could never get far in the playoffs before the 8A reclassification bc of the talent in 6A with NW and Central and having to face those programs first round of the playoffs year in and out.

It is not entirely fair to call Columbus underachieving bc they were classed in one of the toughest classes in the country in 6A and they were the only competitive private school at that level with less talent. And they were competitive with those teams (often winning during the season and losing close games come playoff time).

Coach Merrit has been very bland with his offense and Columbus is very loyal to its staff and slow to make changes so I agree somewhat with the program appearing lazy at times. However, since the 8A reclassification, this program has appeared in 2 state finals in four years and I believe another semis. The talent at the program is growing along with the facilities. They are no longer just talented at a couple of skill positions. You don’t blow out Deerfield as easily as they did without talent. That Mandarin qb made some great throws.

Columbus wins 10 games a year in SFla at the highest level with a solid schedule. It’s only a matter of time until they win states if they continue to make it to the ship.

As for some of the other talent not mentioned - Kalani Norris and Henry Parrish Jr
