How do you figure more with less ; they recruit kids from all over Miami, practice on a million dollar turf field, and have a 7 million dollar weight room? More with less, two years ago their secondary consisted of Bandy and Henderson [Florida] who both started as true freshman ;
Jobe who probably better than both of those two but has not yet become a starter, playing at Bama may have something to do with that
and Josh Uche who currently plays at Michigan. Plenty of talent, absolutely no reason for lack of state titles at that place.

Your looking at the last 5 years of a 30 + year effort to build a consistent thoroughbred program ( no offense Hialeah ). Those kids & that turf didn't miraculously appear, nor did Columbus buy ships & toys like University ~ Gen Ron school for the blind & football ~ American Heritage ~ etc.

I feel u outside with a short view it can be deceiving. No drama. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. As many of us, I've seen the landscape shift in the madness that is prep ball in South Florida. Landscape is completely different, & any and all programs worth a ****e are trying to bring in talent.

Nah bro. They send some kids to college here and there but OVERALL they're not that talented. I'm talking top to bottom, depth wise. They always have a few good skill kids but they rarely have legit talent at OL, DL and LB.

Columbus coaches well.
They had nowhere near as much talent as Deerfield.

But who won??

Columbus plays like the high school teams that I watched in Dade County decades ago. Not overly talented but incredible attention to detail and very smart and resourceful. Those programs made high school games look like a mini college program. Every game was interesting to attend, regardless of talent level.

Now it is not anything like that. It is spread out and get us in the end zone as fast as we can. The lesser talented teams other than Columbus are all adopting that style, which is why they get mangled when stepping up in class.

This is true, especially in the trenches. Similar to Gulliver, where there would always be some P5 kids at the skill positions, and maybe 1 other D1 kid at Dline or LB. This was one of their better at OL, and it had 1 kid that's going D1. Most of the lineman tend to be 6 ft 230 lb cuban kids.

Also, despite having the best facilities, the administration won't let everyone in like it's STA, AHP, or Gulliver 10 years ago. We've turned down 5star recruits like Lamarcus Joyner and Jaamal Berry.

They turn down seniors, and your 6' 230 cuban kids are fine as long as they keep bringing in the skill kids from Goulds, Richmond Heights, and Perrine

Columbus this year has like 4 div 1 level DL on the roster. They are the buffalo bills of dade county football

Everyone pretty much gets into Columbus these days, last 2 incoming freshmen class were close to 500 boys. The school is no longer elite except for the Mas program. A Columbus education is pretty mediocre these days. On the Football side of things I agree that they underachieve. They truly have no real competition in Dade county from other private schools offering a better environment. Broward private schools are in a constant battle with each other. Coach Merritt and the rest of the Columbus program are lazy and arrogant. They expect boys to flock to them, they don’t put in the work. They also play in the easiest classification to win a title if you’re a “big school”. That Manderin team had 4 losses with 1 being to the 4a state champ Raines. Columbus wouldn’t make it out of South Florida in 7a or 6a. Columbus should be at the level or even more successful than St. Thomas has been the past 30 years.

I ask again who does Columbus compete against for kids?? Gulliver, Westminster, LaSalle, Pace and Belen???

Who does STA compete against?? University School, Heritage, Chaminade, Gibbons??

Not even close.

Are you arguing that they under achieve with the kids they have?
Or that they don't get kids, period?

I'm from Broward so I don't know who they compete with for kids. But I know what they have on the field, and they're not loaded.

They underachieve as a program in general. They have enough to win in 8A, but could be crazy dominant if they’d be less lazy.

Well maybe you know more than i do (about Columbus)... but i saw them from field level and i wasn't impressed by their overall talent.

There's so many other programs that i would call "under achieving" before them.

No they don't.

And they ain't got **** on the OL either, just a bunch of tough chicos.

They also have like a 6'6 sophomore DE. Who was the 4th kid i was speaking of.

They have gotten better in the trenches as of late. They use to have a bunch of smaller tough kids. But they have been getting more and more solid to go along with getting the skill position transfers. I think they have one of the Cristobal kids on the ol to who is div 1

The other sophomore DE is Victor Ishmael’s kid.
