Coley Already Playing The "If It's Dead Even" Card...

I agree if it's really tied and there is no appreciable difference you go with the guy who has experience. Also that way if Heaps sucks ****, you can give Kaaya a shot whereas if Kaaya gets the start and has the deer in the headlights look, even if you being in Heaps you have already burned the kids shirt needlessly.

If it's tied, give it to Heaps and see if we can get by with him.

I disagree, you only get experience from playing, play the youngster.

My favorite and the most encouraging thing I've read is that Kaaya has OCD tendencies. That attention to detail has been missing around here. Woo!

Best thing a young QB( well, any for that matter) can have to lean on is a good running game. I think the Ville game comes down to Duke Johnson being Duke Johnson.

That might be the theme of this season, regardless of who is under center.

I think people forget that Duke was on his way to 1,500-plus yard campaign last year. I really think he can be a Heisman finalist...

I love everything I am hearing about Brad Kaaya. I just don't have a horse in the Kaaya vs. Heaps race yet. My first aim is to win the game at Louisville. I'm just not sure which QB gives us the better chance to do that.

Ryan Williams will start the majority of the games this season IMO.

Expect Heaps to start on Labor Day.

We need a Nerd at QB.

Kaaya seems like the man for the job.

So we have Ryan Williams who may or may not be back from injury sometime soon.
We have Olsen a second year player who is a redshirt freshman. It appears he will likely transfer after the season.
Jake Heaps is here a year.
And we have two freshman quarterbacks. One no one talks about. One everyone hopes leads us to the promised land. Regardless, we need Golden to bring in quality young men who can be quarterbacks here. If Heaps, Williams, and Olsen are gone at seasons end we are basically left with two frosh quarterbacks. One will be a sophomore and one a redshirt frosh. Got to think we bring 1-2 new qbs in. And I'm okay with that. I'd love to see Olsen turn it around and have a legit battle but apparently Olsen likes to party too much.

Kaaya’s high school coach said he’s not a typical teenager. As Kaaya noted Friday: “I would stay up until 1 a.m. on school nights watching film in high school. I sacrificed having that social life and going out a lot.”

Ken Dorsey.

I was just about to throw Kenny's name out there. Kaaya is behaving like Dorsey did (but with more raw talent) in "99 and '00 and I think that all turned out pretty well.

Poor Olson, probably wont play a game ina UM uniform, but life goes on.

Probably true...but he's got no one to blame but himself.

Dude is a freshman. If he had any sort of balls, he would say "**** this" and work his **** off to win the job back. Now, I don't know if he has the skill to ultimately beat Kaaya. But, he needs to develop a chip on his shoulder (the good, I'm-going-to-prove-these-fat-*****-wrong kind) or else he's not going to play many games anywhere worth mentioning.

Absolutely. But freshman or not, he's got to realize that everyone else around him isn't going to stand still and wait for him to show the maturity and drive needed for the position. Kaaya is a true freshman and showing much greater maturity and motivation. So it's nobody's fault but Olsen that he's very close to being left the odd man out.

Olsen did throw a pretty deep ball on the recent Canes camp report, but it looked like it was all second team. But I'm still shaking my head at Yearby's cut back ability.

not sure about Heaps yet but i am inclined to agree. williams gets a crack at the starting job when he returns. of course, if he isn't effective than heaps or kaaya or both will play.

as soon as jake heaps came in.

Olsen was like f it. :cigar:

you can tell in after the spring game, he thought the job was his and that it was pretty much given since he had no comp at the time. how quickly things can change in a couple of months now he is 3rd on the depth chart.

I just don't think Golden have the backbone to look Williams and heaps in the eye and start a freshman. That takes some real balls

Best thing for us would be that Olsen decides he can still achieve his goals at UM. Meaning getting a degree, having a great experience, and playing football. Great to have him as a backup ready to go as needed. Not sure that is realistic, but would be good for us. He would likely Jet to another school for his last year (2017).

2 thoughts.

1. there is no substitute for experience and heaps will and should get the start at louisville. kaaya may end up playing some, you never know, but i would not throw him out there at first. he might be starting by week 2 or 3.

2. who is Olsen?

Forget redshirtting Kaaya. I hope there's no shot for him to be here 5 years. I want him gone in 3-4 years and handing Allison or Lawson keys to the Bentley.
